It is a good policy only to invest in things you have a thorough understanding of, or things that have negligible risk (and by that, I do mean investments that have insurance/guarantees against risk).

That's right. Buy a house and use that as the down payment, then rent it out. It should appreciate over time and provide some cash flow in the mean time. If you don't already own your own home use it to buy one.

Buy some energy (oil etc.) stocks.. Or bank stocks. Those things have typically averaged 20% return a year for the last couple years at least. Some as much as 30%.

low dp, write off the interest and taxes to shelter ordinary income, and a place to live. if you are handy look for fixers.

ok, that seemed like a nice reply, thanks...believe me, i am only asking here for fun ideas. i certainly would never buy a stock soley based on a tip from GFY. it is just fun to hear about new ideas (like vending machines...i would never have thought about it and you never know, it might be something worth asking around about)...like i said, it's just some extra play/throw away money going into either real estate or mutual funds

here's a tip - put 1/2 the money allready towards your childs education fund - the other 1/2 invest in mutual funds.

if you want to be agressive, open up a scott trade acount ($5 trades) and have at it - just remember to place stop orders to cover your bets.
