Back in 1980...after a year of living with my boyfriend and watching him struggle thru a full load of school at the University of Texas while maintaining a new business and launching another one at the onset of "Video"....
Times were hard. He was running ragged with his time. It was Christmastime. I had a bit more time than he did, so I was able to get out to shop for him. I was only 20 at the time so I was limited with my money but I did him up the best Christmas I could.
Christmas day....after he'd opened a couple of presents I had gotten him, he looked at me and said..."I'm so sorry...I didn't have time to really shop for you this year". He reached around the sofa we were sitting on and presented me with a small stuffed Teddy bear.
I was so in love with this man...I took the Teddy bear and shushed his apologies that this was all he could do. I was thrilled with the Teddy bear and proceeded to tell him so...I stopped mid-sentence...
I caught a glint out of the corner of my eye as I held the bear...then I realized it was wearing diamond earrings.
I've been married to this man now almost 25 years. And for the rest of my life. Btw....I still wear these earrings on occasion and it's my will that I be buried in them.
