Dont you just love the policia (police) in Mexico?

I had a friend that had a run in with the policia so it reminded me of all my good times i had with them. 6 out of 6 times that I had a run in with Cops in mexico they ripped me off!!! Damn they must be really scandlous there. I think someone should do a reality TV show on this, I think that would be great. Its so funny the bull crap these guys have told me and they think they are being smooth or something, I always know its complete bull crap but I go along with it because I do not want to go to a Mexican Jail.

Timeline: (I will make the long stories short)

2000 - Got caught peeing in a TJ parking lot they said I was going to jail for the week unless I paid the ticket on the spot, they said the ticket was $60 but I only had $20 so I told him that and he says "thats ok" takes the money and lets me go.

2000 - In Cancun my friend got caught peeing in the bushes and ran away leaving us behind and the cops pretty much did the same as above.

2001 - A friend and I got in a fight at a club, we were in the back of the policia car and the polica told our friends that they could bail us out for $100 or else it might be $500 at the jail.

2001 - I got arrested for passing out flyers in front of a club and they let me go after taking all my money in my wallet.

2001 - Got caught drinking and driving in Rosarito and was scared shitless so remembering my past experinces with the policia I played dumb and said I can pay for the ticket with cash right now so i dont have to go to Jail right, thats what I did last time. I have $30 I said. He spoke a little english and said, thats not the way it works here I'm not trying to steal your money, you think Im a criminal? He then went back to his car while I was shitting bricks, he then came back and said ok I talked with blah blah and they said you can pay the ticket now. I gave him my $30, he said thanks and was even kind enough to ask If I had enough gas money to get back home, lol.

2004 - I got stopped at customs which is normal but I forgot that I had 300 Almost Illegal DVDs in my trunk that I was supposed to ship earlier that day so they tried to impound my car and arrest me etc.... I tried the ticket thing but that was not working and just pissed them off at first. I was trying to be really cool and not some dick american when one of the cops laughed at a funny shirt I was wearing at the time and with his horrible english said that is a really funny shirt where did you get that? Do they sell them in Mexico??? I said NO but that he could have mine if he let me go, he talked with his cop buddies, laughed and then let me go into Mexico but of course they took all my DVDs excpet for 20 which is all I can legally cross over the border without having to report them.

Sounds like you are really really lucky that they are corrupt. If you had done all this stuff in the US, you would have been fined and maybe be in Jail.

LOL. Took the words right outta my mouth

Every instance you mentioned, you were doing things 100% illegal in the US, except the fliers thing.

So yeah, count your lucky stars they were corrupt.

Yep, the corrupt cops are letting you get away with murder for a few bucks. Get a DUI in the states and they're not gonna let you off for $30...you're going to jail to sleep it off, your car is getting impounded, and you're going to have to pay for a lawyer.

I agree that it's wrong though...the corruption should be cleaned up. Drunk drivers shouldn't be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Well, where I live in Monterrey, Mexico - one specific county unfortunately, but a start... if you are caught drinking n driving, or DUI - you get a 2k fine, and HAVE to sleep it off in jail. Car impounded as well. Not as harsh as the US, but at least it's getting better.

            Exactly!!

Apart from earning a few dollars, they don't want wtfent clogging up the court system and stuff him in a jailcell and feed him - they got better shit to sort out.

Gotta say, any encounters I've had with the law in Latin America have been excellent - cops are treated more as friends and they are friendly and without the bullshit.

I fucked one of their cars up once - reversed into it and it was my fault. We went off to a body parts store, collected new parts and then on to a respray shop and all was sorted (cheap!!) in a few hours and they were on the road again.

Another time we were stuck in shit roads - these guys got their sleeves rolled up and tried to pull the car out of shit. When that failed, they then drove us all home (miles away!) as a matter of courtesy.

I'd love to see a US cop get his uniform off and get into a mud swamp to help folks!
