Xbox starts off weak in Japan...
At least one country has an idea about video games...
Two day sales figures for the Xbox360 have been announced by two tracking firms, Media Create and Enterbrain, the data company used by Famitsu. According to Media Create, the Xbox360 sold 41,817 units for its first two days, which is 28% of the stock Japanese retailers received for launch. This means that about 150,000 units were shipped for launch. Famitsu on the other hand have a fairly higher figure, at 62,135 units. The disparity is definitely considerable. For example, the original Xbox has sold around 11,000 units in 2005 which is half of the gap between Media Create and Famitsu's figures. Famitsu further provided sales for some software. As expected, Ridge Racer 6 came in first with 29,891 units; however, this is a weak start for the series in Japan in general as Namco expected to sell 500,000 units. Second is Perfect Dark Zero, which sold 14,897 units. This is less than the debut of the Japanese N64 version, which sold 34,912 units in two days. Third place came EA's Need for Speed Most Wanted, at 6,842 units. The tie ratio for software is 0.91, which means that more systems were sold than all software combined. This can be attributed to the packed in Final Fantasy XI Beta disc as well as limited backward compatibility. Some US software is also region free, and might have been imported into Japan in time for the launch. Others might be waiting for Dead or Alive 4, which was originally scheduled for launch but delayed. The original Xbox sold 123,929 units when it first launched on 22 Feb, 2002 with a tie ratio of 1.45. Most likely, the original Xbox performed better at launch than the Xbox360 because Dead or Alive 4 was delayed until the end of December. The DOA games for the original Xbox traditionally sold hardware whenever they debuted. Source: Famitsu, Bloomberg/Media Create
