Does anyone fall for this shit? The person saying "tell them I sent you" is either trying to look big or gets a nice kickback for referring people. This happens especially in hosting threads. Personally I would never even check out a host because Billie Bob "sent me". That screams ulterior motives to me.

it all depends on who is saying it and how its said.
I say that to people once in awhile because i mean it, sometimes its for a cut.
If i say "tell them i sent you" i just want a cut.
If i say " make sure to mention my name because _______" it usually means , you will get a better deal / better service..
With some things like hosting you have to count on some people using up more resources and some less ( like support etc )
if i refer you to joe because " you will get a better deal "

basically if your not a good enough friend of the person to ask " why should i mention your name , just because you get a cut or some other reason " then i wouldnt trust it.
"just taking a cut " isn't a bad thing in my book , if i refer a customer whether its word of mouth or linking , i still would like/deserve a cut.. but i certainly wouldnt lie and tell them they would get a better deal unless they truly were.hatisblack at yahoo.comComment
