Foucault's Pendulum, Umberto Eco, fiction. If you like Dan Brown, you'll be blown away by this. It's just as much of a reglio-historical-conspiracy-mystery, but more complex, more compelling, and ultimately funnier and a better read. Really good stuff.
Revelation Space, Alastair Reynolds, science fiction. A good space opera, totally entertaining, lots of future tech but still good characters and plot, largely because it manages to talk about big concepts without losing focus on the individual people having to sort out the big concepts. Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy Toole, fiction. You've probably already read this. If not, read it. Hilarious, tragic, each page is full of those "I can't believe *that* happened" and "I can't believe he did *that*" experiences. The Mind of God, Paul Davies, nonfiction. I've read this book twice and still don't entirely understand it, and it's meant to be a laymans' introduction to the philosophical questions raised by quantum physics. Still, I enjoyed it both times and learned a fair amount. Well-written and accessible, even if it is sometimes incomprehensible. Cheers -b

The Hunt for Zero Point by Neil Cook.
easy to read non-fiction, interesting topic Writer from Jane's Defense Weekly gets interested in anti-gravity devices and falls down the rabbit hole. He lands in a Nazi bunker circa 1942.
