Video rendering...what can speed this up?

I'm using soney vegas for editing but when I go to render a 30 minute vid it takes about 2 hours. Any idea on how to speed it up? Video card upgrade?

Seems right ...

Faster CPU and more memory will decrease rendering time, but not that much really ...
I have a box doing just that ...

Rendering from a 55 gigs avi to a mpeg2 ( dvd ready) file takes about 10 hours on a XP athlon 3400 ...

There's no magic trick.

Only more CPU power really.

Oh, but while you're rending, turn off most progs on your computer, that could speed it up a bit.

vittle, that is actually pretty fast for a 30min video. There are some good points in this thread including more CPU, and turn off as many programs as you can that are running in the background while you are rendering.

Usually when I do it I let a batch run overnight and hopefully they are done in the morning. I think it is just a home PC thing. They CAN render video no problem, but were not built specifically to do it.

build out a quad proc systems, or atleast a Dual Xeon box for faster rendering. Xeons come in Dual Core with big cache, so dualing xeons is alot like 3 Procs in a system performance wise.

I'd make sure I had atleast 4-8gb of ram and a high speed SATA raid for disk speed to get some good performance. Then there is OS choice, some people swear Macs are still faster and then some people I know are using Linux setups to do batch renders. But then again, Pinnacle 10 for Windows now can edit in HD, so

rendering HD takes a whole lot longer than dv.
