Well?

Currently, galleries will need all straight thumbs that link to the bigger image.
Which means all galleries are/will be all the same. Bores the crap out of me.

Anyone that's been doing this long enough knows that plain galleries and even ugly ones tend to do better than ones that are filled with graphics etc. Surfers don't care.. They just want the porn and couldn't care less if it's artsy or not. Surfers are also "stupid" and need very clear links to click thru on. Most graphic galleries make it confusing for them especially since they have been taught that clickable links are underlined text.

Given thehun gets 3M-4M a day and world sex gets 2M+ a day and they are extremely plain sites should tell you all you need to know...

This biz is about making the most money from the surfers, not making pretty sites/pages so you're not "bored".

I've been doing this for almost 4 years. There's so many do's and don'ts.
I know all about them. I don't care. I want quality. So I want to make quality galleries.

So far, nobody has given any GOOD reasons why this isn't possible in most submission script while it's not some big ass coding problem or anything.

As far as I'm corcerned, a few years ago big graphical design weren't made for 2 reasons:

1. the ones you mentioned
2. bandwidth. So galleries had be kept simple as well. As time progressed people stuck to the old straight thumbs. Submission scripts went along with it. Image maps just weren't used.

Since then we've come a long way, bandwidth has increased a lot. I personally think neither reasons have to be an issue anymore in these times.

Ofcourse, you'll have to make a good gallery that isn't too crowded.

Well I've noticed that as everyone started making galleries and sites that had more and larger graphics, everyone started complaining about less sales... Given the number of surfers on dial-up is STILL close to 40%-50%, it's no wonder revenues have been shinking since everyone cut out half the market place.

But whatever, build the galleries for yourself man... Carry on..

I keep image sizes small for dialups, I'm not stupid.

As a matter of fact, my "one big image" with an image map is smaller in KB than my 15 loose thumbs...

Now, I could ''optimize" my thumbs more but that'll give poor quality.
I'm quite niched so I believe I can afford to offer higher quality.

So it still doesn't explain it really. Regardless of images maps or thumbs: people that want grand galleries with big images will build them anyway.

So the 'problem' there is their wishes, not the techniques...

I thought about it and realized I wasn't really answering your question...

When you have 100s/1000s of galleries to review every day, you look at ways to streamline.. TGPs don't make money from the submissions so we want to minimize the man power involved... One of the things you do when you review galleries is to check where all the outgoing links go.. You check for people linking recips to non-tgp sites. I for one don't allow unknown/unproven submitters to link to FPAs since a lot of those guys end up redirecting to other sites, spyware downloads or their own TGPs etc.. That's alwos why we don't allow mouseovers... So if we allowed imagemaps, it would be almost impossible to check every damn pixel in that map for an out link.. More cost effective to just not allow them...
