:mad WTF AVN?!?!? Have you forgotten WTF discretion is???

I live in a small town in ohio and I get not one BUT TWO mailers from AVN for the brand new GAYVN magazine.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?!?!?!?!

What happened to discretion here? Big bold letters gayvn and a fucking pic of the freaking magazine on the front.

God Damned get some fucking common sense and keep that shit covered, some of us live in a world where the religious right would burn our houses down for peddling porn, let alone gay porn.

Couple points:

Before everyone slams me - realize that I work in sales for AVN Online- not marketing. So I was not aware of this mailer. But I would like to address people complaints.

We do take complaints seriously. If you recieved a mail peice and do not want to get them in the future - follow the steps below. If you just want to complain - and not take the steps to stop future mailing please dont complain again!

I come from a direct response background, the company I used to work for was considered the BMG of Porn - mailing out up to 5 million hardcore mailing pieces monthly - so I do understand that people can be offended by receiving adult oriented mailings - if you do not want them - do something about it.

1. If you do not want to receive mail from AVN - send mail or e-mail to me and I will have you removed from the list. Realize that you will not receive any more mailings from AVN including AVN and AVN Online. We do not want to send anything to people who do not want it.

2. Anyone on our mailing list has at some point contacted or been in contact with AVN and has requested magazines or other info from AVN.

3. If you do not want to reiceve junk mail in general - go to http://www.the-dma.org/ and add your self to the do not mail list. Every DMA member is required to merge mailings against this list.

4. Come you work in porn.... your mailman already thought you were gay -- just kidding.

Cheers

AVN can send me a magazine anytime it wants

I have filled out the form to get the Magazine at least 3 times already and still never recieve it. I would like to get it, I been trying for years. It is not that mail is intercepted or anything, of all places I live in Porn Valley.

That is a bullshit response and you know it. How about we send big pictures of guys eathing shit to your house, let your kids get the mail and let your postal worker see the shit that you might be into. Way to put all the responsibility on the person who receives the mail instead of making yourselves look good and using a little common sense.

Perception is reality and this type of shit is unacceptable. Have a little class as an organization and be discreet. I too live in a small town of about 1000, and word gets around when shit comes in your mail. This is a croc of shit, I have yet to get this mailer, but if I do, I will be even more pissed off.

Yes I am complaining, because this is unacceptable and I know I will be getting the mailer any day now since I get all the other shit you guys send out. It's one thing to get an email, that I am fine with, but you guys send out some shit that should not be sent out, and I always get it.

I dont receive it, but have received similar things and called immediately and bitched up a storm

You should consider a plain brown sleeve, and more people would sign up.

Even the FSC sent a magazine with porn ads on the back cover

Again, I'm certainly not opposed to the content (doh!), but I live among families with a gazillion kids who play outside even in zero degree weather, and my mailbox is small and magazines are *always* left hanging partway out.

A typical insensitive response from AVN, as expected.

Chris, that's great and all, but what about those webmasters who actually WANT to receive AVN cos they enjoy reading it or find it helpful for business?

What it sounds like you're saying to me is that AVN will continue to send out their mags however they see fit, and if you don't like how AVN does it then 'don't complain' just quit getting them?

I think that's a poor way to respond to legitimate complaints from your mailing database. How many porn mags (like Hustler, Playboy, etc) would send to their customers in a clear envelope? They all use brown envelopes for a reason: DISCRETION, a common courtesy that wouldn't hurt AVN in any way (yes I know it's a different target audience, but that doesn't negate my point).

The AVN Mag is apparently another revenue source for AVN, shouldn't AVN want to retain and grow their current database to include more webmasters rather than NOT accommodate (through something that seems to be just common sense anyways) them and result in a LOSS of circulation?

Decline of circulation = loss of advertising $$ = bottom line it's less profit for AVN!

What's the big deal switching from clear wrap to brown envelopes (or dark wraps that don't reveal anything) anyway? Does it really cost that much more?

Another great point. Personally I think they just don't give a shit, they have proven that with the way they treat webmasters at their events as well as other issues i have seen over the past few years.

Chris,

A little advice if you don't mind:

1) Just take to the full blame. Don't qualify your position with holes in responsibility, it will get you further in the end. You work for AVN, step up to the plate and resolve the issue. It is not your responsibility but it is your opportunity to prove yourself: Seize it. Don't tell them about your background, tell them what you are capable of doing.

2) Never give an option to let webmasters out of mailings before you attempt to apologize and resolve. You want more webmasters, not less. AVN made a mistake, it happens, just apologize, move forward and salvage the accounts. Don't worry about who is complaining.

I have been a punching bag on more than a few occasions in this industry in terms of PR. Sometimes you just have to chalk it up as your job.

Good Luck with everything,

Cheers

This has nothing to do with recieving the magazine or even the junk mail and advertisements that come with it. It's called PROFESSIONAL COURTESY. You cover the magazines, you usually keep the ads covered as well. Is it really necessary to put questionable content on the front so that my privacy and saftey and security in my community is at risk?

Yeah I am in porn and I do want your magazines, hell I even want your promotionals, what I don't want is for my mailman and my neighbors to see what I do and cast judgement on my family and friends, and to be honest if you can't see that then you and avn can take your magazine and business and shove it straight up your ass...

Good Luck with everything,
Great advice, wish more programs in here would think in that manner.

I am sure if Chris roamed around his office, more than a couple of people would tell him of my past. I have shouldered my share of PR debacles and have always taken my own advice. Where is Aeon when I need him? Haha

I don't blame him so much as I do what influences marketing reps in this industry. You see marketing reps go from job to job not caring a bit about arguing on message boards, and for someone new, it seems they are in a rewarding position. Fact is they are not, few large companies that pay well will hire you if you are combustible. I cherish both companies that I have worked for, I took / take them both very serious. I made / make good money with both.

It is my job to take the higher road and too take the brunt of the anger when something goes wrong. It does not matter if a programmer or accountant made the mistake, my checks come weekly to take responsibility and offer solutions.

Maybe if everyone can let up on him for a bit, as it is Christmas, this will only serve to help him move forward in the industry and everything will work out for everyone.

I just arrived in NYC this morning, I am going to endure the fridgid cold and take in some of the Holiday spectacles around the city.

Points taken- will relay to MARKETING - I AM SURE THEY WILL MAKE CHANGES.

simple fact is they assume everyone is in an office in Porn Valley where getting a magazine with some 12" cocktard on the front cover is normal. Love going to my PO box and having the women who owns the place stare me down while she is talking to some city prosecuter or some shit while District Attorney Gonzales just happened to pay a visit and they all were staring at the GAYVN /AVN mag as she was about to put it in my box but instead hands it to me saying they wouldn't fit and she didn't want to "wrinkle" my picture mags up.

But seriously, some bitch that works there gave me dirty looks cause they did have to hand it over, too big for the PO Box and now I have to change my fucking address with all 200 sponsors a-fucking gain since I don't trust em anymore to give me my mail.

Fuck you in the ASS AVN, you are fucktards!! (brown bag that shit assholes)

That's just fucking insensitive bullshit. You really expect people to take that seriously??
Because we don't want our neighbors/postal workers to know what we do, you want all of us to say that we don't want to receive anything from AVN anymore?? Good way for an organization that claims/wants to be "the" industry news outlet.
Not surprising, though, I guess - considering the way AVN has acted in the past.
