Favorite Holiday Tradition?

I thought it might be fun to start a thread where people can list their favorite holiday tradition. It could be something like finding a tree. Or seeing a classic holiday movie on TV. Like watching It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Die Hard... etc.

So what's your tradition, guys??

i didn't have much tradition until last year, when i had my first xmas with Halcyon's family. today i very much look forward to trimming the tree with his parents and brother/sis-in-law and having lasagna. =D i'm so lucky to be a part of this amazing family, it just makes me smile to think about their traditions being passed on through the years!

That's special.

No, I don't have any holiday tradiations.

However, I remember once when I was in the Marines I rushed home for Christmas one year; The first time in many years I was home with my family for Christmas. Because it was all planned last minute, my parents didn't have time to get me much. I ended up getting socks and underwear and I was so disappointed. Years later when I was out of the Marines and flat broke and Christmas came around I remember that one Christmas and wish I had someone to give me some new underwear and socks because I couldn't afford any.

That's an awesome tradition!! I have never had a real tree before. I can imagine how fucked up it would look if I tried. I would probably scuplt it into a naked woman! Haha Mmmm... lasagna, yummmmmmy!

Celebrating my wedding anniversary with my wife and my family, we were married on Christmas Eve. So we spend it with my family, and every year my oldest brother and I take turns dressing up like Santa Clause for the kids so they don't catch on too much that Uncle Andy isn't around, we throw them off, one year we even had a family friend do it, when they thought they were catching on that me and my brother were the ones doing it.

I think I know what to buy you for Christmas now!! Do you prefer thongs or full-back panties?

My favorite tradition is getting snot assed drunk on every saturday after thanksgiving. Then one by one I call my family members and tell them what I really think of them.

After that I call them all on Christmas Eve and tell them I'm a fat broke pornographer and need money for my kids christmas presents and try and borrow 20 bucks from each of them.

One of my favorites...if not the favorite...would be after we have the tree up. My two sons and I will sit on the couch together will all the lights off, admiring the tree, and drinking egg nog.

I always think then how incredibly fucking lucky I am.

YARGH!

We give each of the kids a special ornament each year. When they open them, they place them on the tree.

We name and date each one. When they are old enough to move out, and have their own tree, they'll have a bunch to start with. It's cool too, because they can see what their interests/hobbies/etc. were over the years. each one is like a small time capsule.

Buying a real tree and a real Christmas reef for the front door. Decorating the whole house, inside and out while listening to Christmas music. Every year I buy a special ornament, to represent that year, for the tree. Then cooking a big Ham for dinner and picking at it for days afterwards. Of course watching It's a Wonderful Life and The Christmas Story.

Tpyically the whole family gathers, have a nice meal, trade gifts and watch its a wonderful life. Since most of the family are musicians, we usually have a Jam session.... that alone is pretty cool

Its cool since its the one night that no one has to be anywhere other than there....

Xmas as a kid was spent swimming at the beach, playing cricket and eating ham with salads. I have not celerbrated xmas like that in 8years as I have been here in the USA and it's generally cold here. But this year due to spending xmas with friends and not family and living in FL, I have decided to put on the same spread like my family use to at xmas. Loads of food and alcohol!!!
May not be a tradition but still a pleasant way to spend xmas.

Going to start some new ones this year. We have a 6 month old boy, and it will be fun to start some of our own.

And on top of that both of our families are on the East coast, and we are on the wrong coast.

My grandma making crab chiopino for Xmas eve dinner every year; the family gathered around the table with bibs, getting all messy eating crab and garlic bread and dipping fingers into bowls of water with lemon slices when I needed a drink.

Playing "naked elf" while decorating the tree and dancing like an idiot to the Christmas tunes. Making homemade eggnog using moms recipe and drinking it out of the same Santa mug I have had since a kid. And making a hearty breakfast on Christmas morning before any gifts are unwrapped.

I love this! I put up my xmas tree a few nights ago & pulling each ornament out & unwrapping it, seeing the note my mom had written on the box to bring back a rush of memories was wonderful. Definitely my favorite tradition & one I'll hopefully be able to do when I have kids too.
