sonofsam is correct. I recieve a disablility check from the VA (100%) and a disability check from the SSA (100%). I live off approximate half of the monthly income that these two checks provide me. The rest goes into savings.
I spent more than 20 years acquiring real estate. I sold off all of my holdings (not that long ago) and invested the monies into investment accounts. I recently closed all investment accounts (the market took a dive for a two month period) and dispersed the money into a dozen or so different banks. FYI...I am satisfied that I currently have more money in these banks than you will earn in your entire lifetime. I will slowly began to invest the monies again...and roll back all dividends...just as I was doing before...as my monthly checks more than cover my living expenses.
I have been a Webmaster for many years...thank you very much.
I posted on this board last year urging the adoption of a military family for Xmas. BTW...I gave close to $20,000 last year to military families and the figure this year will be $22,000.
Now for you people that are not trash...and can afford to help out a military family...please adopt one for Xmas. Right now there are many wounded vets getting put on the streets by our gov't when they get out of the hospitals. The VA hospitals are really very depressing places to be "housed". These patriots deserve better treatment and care.
Anything you can do to help a vet is deeply appreciated. I took a disabled vet who is a good friend to the movie to see "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." He has trouble standing and has to use a walker. The people at the theatre were more than helpful, they were great.
When I spoke to him the next morning, that was all he wanted to talk about. A small thing like a couple of hours of time can make a big difference in someone else's life.
