*Update*
Ok, after rebooting a couple of times and re-starting the phone software a couple of times, it's now working properly. So, I'm assuming that the problem wasn't with the VOIP service, but rather the software...or hell, maybe even my computer. lol

Just didn't want to cause a panic for anyone.

I purchased the altec lansing AHS502i headset and has worked out very well with the infinity service. =) Just a little tip if anyone else is looking at buying a headset for VoIP.
How do you like that headset?
I'm thinking of buying the same one.

I'm noticing a bit of "staticy" line noise from the recipient. The call was made to South America. The person said they could hear me just fine, so I guess it's something to do with the carrier.
I'll report back when I get a new headset with adjustable settings.

Edit: Actually, I'd be interested in buying the phone listed in the first post (/grandstream_gxp2000.gif).
Split contact me with the price shipped. It will make useage of this service alot more convienent.

Well, I did it. I took the plunge.

I got rid of the 'land line' & DSL, and had cable installed yesterday...so that I could go entirely with this service. If that doesn't attest to the quality of the service and my confidence in it, I don't know what does.

For me, this meant big 'changes' (and remember my earlier post: "I'm not one to easily make changes"). I've always had a land line, DSL and satellite tv. So, this involved not only getting rid of the land line and DSL, but the satellite tv as well, and switching over to cable tv.

Now, if I could just figure out how to get this connected to my home phones (or get one of the phones mentioned in that first post), so that I wouldn't have to always sit at the computer to use it - all would be perfect.

Gotta say though that I'm lovin' Split's VOIP service and it's rockin'! I'm really excited to see what other changes they have in the works for this system. Keep up the good work, guys!

Im also wanting to get this hooked up into my second line of phones in my house. I have two lines in the house, and disconnected my second line a month or so ago. Want to run the voip out to all the rooms in the house I have phones, so I can run both till I make the full switch.

As a note for those of you running the softphone. If you have two soundcards in your computer you can route the ringer to work from the soundcard you dont normally use. I have a soundblaster live drive that I use for recording that I use as my primary soundcard, and I also have onboard sound built into the motherboard which was sitting idle. I hooked up a set of speakers to the motherboard soundcard, and set the ringer to use that card. So I normally have the headphones plugged in and would only hear the softphone ring if I had them on. With the way I have it now I hear it both through the headphones and through the speakers. Just a tip to make it work better for you.

Btw just got off the phone with Chris, and Joel, and should be some promising things coming very soon!!

sticky, thanks for sharing that info about the speaker setup and also that link. I plan on reading that tomorrow sometime, as I'm heading to bed now.

Something we should all find out too, is how to set up 911 on this system. I was told by someone that when you have a VOIP phone setup that you have to do something special to get 911...not sure if that's true or not, but it does sound like it could be the case.

"some promising things coming very soon!!" eh? I can't wait!

Another random question here...is there anyway that we can change the 'on hold' music that a caller hears when they call us?

Hehe I wondered that too. Think its latino music currently.

The 911 thing I think should be setup. If you call someone now they should see your landline phone number come up on caller ID. I think your address and other info is embedded in that. I know Chris asked for my address etc when he set it up. Not sure why I am up at 2:41 bah lol

Damn Deb,
This is only beta testing. I think getting rid of your landline was a bit extreme.
Nothing is granted with this service, and I doubt it will be free forever to us testers. Just my 2cents.

Would something like that work with this service? Please advise.

emthree - not extreme at all. I had planned to go this route (VOIP) anyway (see this post by me: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showpo...&postcount=50), whether it had been with SplitInfinity's service, Vonage, SunRocket or some other company that offers it.

My reading comprehension skills never gave me the impression that anything was 'granted' with this service nor do I expect it to be "free forever", as I read the very first post in this thread where it said: "Those 50 people will receive FREE telephone services from SplitInfinity during the beta period and perhaps beyond." I VERY clearly understood the phrases like "during the beta period" & "and perhaps beyond."

Best case scenario - this continues to work out for me and I stay with SplitInfinity's VOIP service.
Worst case scenario - it doesn't work out, I change my mind and go with another company.

Everyone that matters has my cell phone number and can always reach me that way, so it's a win-win situation for me either way I choose to go. My changing over to cable and getting rid of my land line was going to happen anyway, but my post about actually doing it was more of a 'vote of confidence' type of post for Split's service more than anything else.

Thanks for your concern though.

Think any equipment that is SIP compliant will work.

I found this video last night. For those of you that were fans of the show The Screen Savers on TechTv you will like this. Its Kevin Rose that was one of the hosts. He has a underground internet show. Here is the episode they did on VOIP and Asteriks voip setup. http://revision3.com/systm/asterisk/

Will give you a bit of insight into the overall function of things.

How is everyone's connection today?
I get a rapid busy signal when trying to call into my number or when trying to call out.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi guys, sorry I have been kinda quiet.... lots of things in the mix...

I will reply to all the questions in this thread tommorrow as well
as give some general updates and announcements regarding the
voip system. We have lots of news and etc to share so stay tuned.

You all are being so wonderful with the testing that it really has made
a huge difference in our product quality. I want to tell you thanks!!
Keep up the good work team voip! :-)

You will notice on and off today some busy signals when attempting to dial
out. This is a side affect of the installation of our control panel system
which I will announce shortly as well. This problem with bad phone calls
and busy signals will be fixed by mid day tommorrow. Once were out of
beta mode, that kind of this wont happen and can be done with no downtime.
During deployment however, its more viable to do a live update.

Love ya all...

-Chris-

Sweet. Everything has been going good so far. I noticed a few int calls I make, it rings on my end but the recipient does not actually receive the call. It could be a carrier issue. It seems to be happening on and off a lot.

Chris: Would the CP allow for our (spoofed) number to be changed?

The calling issue should be resolved now, that was due to some work we did.
Can you test it now and let me know?

Also, to answer your second question, YES you will be able to change your caller id number. Were working on the security of that right now trying to figure out a way to stop fraudsters from abusing it. Were thinking that
new accounts have a waiting period before it lets them change the caller id.
SO when you sign up, it will be like your number and you cant change it...
But after a certain period of time, it allows you to because it considers you "ok". :-)
Sound fair? Of course for you guys we will hook you up.

Talked to Chris yesterday on the phone. Some great things are coming up this month. They will be going back over all the beta tester accounts and requests for beta accounts in the next week or so. Chris also mentioned the affiliate program and resell program should be launched by the end of this month. Stay tuned folks!!

As far as my experience with the VOIP program it has been stellar. The quality is great, better than expected. Ill be switching to a voip linksys router in the next few weeks and wiring in my second line as the VOIP only. I plan on dropping my landlines all together in the near future.

Hey man, sorry I've been off GFY for a bit.
Everything is running great so far. No more issues really.

Only issue to report is while making a call today, I heard no ringing... by the time the connection was established the recipent picked up. Freaked me out a bit, but that's about all there is to report. Worked fine the second time around.

Edit: Cant wait for that control panel to be released. It would be nice to change my spoofed number, since the number I gave you guys is a private line.

UTStarcom's new GF200 cell phone, previewed last week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, combines GSM and VoIP over WiFi. It should be available in the spring, the company said, while refusing to discuss price.
WiFi VoIP phones aren't anything new. But they are more cordless phone replacements for home use than cell phone competitors, said Michael Tribolet, executive vice president of Vonage, because people probably don't want to carry two phones just to have both cell and VOIP access.

The GF200 looks like just another cell phone - which is just the point. It is intended to be a replacemeny by offering both in one handset.

Dear Beta Testers,

We apologize for the downtime of Canadian routes today due to a technical glitch. It has been resolved for several hours now.

However, on the upside, Canada termination has been MARKEDLY improved and Hawaii
should be working again.

More news (such as better Latin America) soon!

Best Wishes,

Chris Jester

I shouldn't have to chase him down. It's only common courtesy to reply to someone's email - especially when they have been as patient as I have been. He's mentioned how 'supportive' I've been during this beta testing, well then extend the same 'support' me and reply to my email.

All I can say is WOW

I hit up Chris today on ICQ to find out about my Voicemail and if I could have my own number somehow and not only my Voicemail is working now, I even have my own number in the same area-code where my Company is set up / registered.

Thats what I call TOP NOTCH super-helpful support, even on a Saturday when Chris is not in the company working.

I'm super happy now and will def. keep using SplitInfinity VOIP for a long long time

SplitInfinity and Chris ROCK

Thanx so much for the quick help, it's greatly appreciated !

Steve

Update:

So I've played around a little bit, and got my SplitInfinity VoIP with dedicated number now working with this baby:

Link to the Box

It's an all in one Box for: VoIP, DSL, WLAN, Phone-management.

Basicly I have one wireless phone and a fax attached to this box and 4 numbers routed to the phone, 1 to the fax... 3 of those numbers are VoIP, 1 is my landline.

Comes in quite handy cause I don't need another phone or the soft-phone either.

Pretty cool to if you ask me

P.S.: Thanx to Chris again for taking time and monitoring as I was playing around with the setup of the SplitInfinity VoIP number in the Fritz.Box
