Quick SEO question about pointing domains to subpages on another site...

Say I have site A which lists widgets for each state. Is it bad to buy a new domain like californiawidgets.com to pull up the california listings for widgets on site A? Would this hurt / help or have no effect on SEO optimization and if it wouldn't hurt what is the best way to point it there?

Any help appreciated before I buy 10000 of these so thanks in advance.

Well, I know for a fact if you do that alexa will treat them as seperate domains all together and your rankings there will drop significantly. I dunno about others...haven't been educated in SEO that much as of yet.

It would hurt and probably get you banned.

Just do a new folder for each state, waaaay better.

blah.com/miami
blah.com/cali

ect...

Yeah that part is already done. We were just setting up some localized hubs and I didn't want to dupe part of the content onto a new domain. (Pulls out drawing board)

I would think 10 tops if your where really sold on the idea.

If you want better ranking make some other sites good enough to make link trades with other simliar sites like a quality of living site or furniture affiliate program site. Then get it to a pr 4 and link back to your main sites sub pages or just the main page to be extra safe.

Not sure what you mean by 10 tops. If we set up a hub for each state that would be 50 but they would all be parked or pointed to a different subpage. If we went per city then....
