I used to be about 40 pounds over my ideal weight, and since I'm not very tall (5"10) that's a lot.

I then joined the Israeli military, and naturally that fixed my weight problem, at least for the three years I served.

Since then, I've been shifting between my ideal weight and 30-35 pounds over. And let me tell you what I've discovered:

The fatter you get, the harder it is to lose weight. Not physically, but mentally. It takes me tremendous will power to start taking care of myself when I am 30 pounds over because I know I wont see satisfying results for several months, and you'll have to stick with it for several months.

Now, when I get 10-15 pounds over that triggers a red light and I quickly get back to my ideal weight in a few weeks. God help me if I ever slip and get 50 pounds over - I may never be able to take it off. I know I couldn't take off my original 40 pounds until I joined the army and I had to.

After the army, it became slightly easier to lose weight because:

A. I knew I could do it.
B. I knew how great it feels to be in good shape and at your ideal weight.

But still, the farther you are from where you want to be, the harder it is to get there. Some people think being 100 pounds overweight would motiviate the shit out of you. It just doesn't work that way.

I weigh 330. My ideal weight is 250. Since I started working out and watching what I eat, I have lost between 70-80 pounds so far.

I've been overweight my whole life. Can't really blame anyone but myself, although, mom and dad never really instilled in us kids the importance of exercise and eating healthy. Hell, we ate McDonald's 2 or 3 times a week growing up. I can't blame them though, I am smart enough to read and understand literature about what being overweight does to you. But, I can say that once a cycle is started, it's tough to re-align your train of thinking on a subject to break that cycle. If you do something the way you always have, you're more apt to always do it that way. Skinny people who have never had to battle the bulge personally never seem to get this rational...it's always a case of we're "just to fucking fat and lazy to care bla bla bla..."

Now, I do south beach, ride my bike, play basket ball with my son, go for walks with my wife...it all seems to be working well but it has taken some severe mind re-training to get to where I am now.

I love the fact that skinny fucktards who have always been skinny and can eat like there is no tomorrow and never ever gain a pound earn the right to call any overweight person a "lardass". That always makes me smile inside. Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself...or something like that.
