Like today, 25 years ago the greatest of all, John Lennon was murdered

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be

memorial day

Lennon only became a saint AFTER he died. He was just another hippie rockstar living in one of the most expensive buildings in Manhattan.

The guy gets shot and all of a sudden he's 'a great human being'. If he didn't get shot, he would have died of a drug overdose. (Or would have limped along like McCarthy)

Lennon didn't raise money for the poor or help to feed the starving children...he just hung out in his apartment with his crazy wife fighting over money with his former band mates.

Save me your sob stories.

I was in college, had just been kicked outta my moms house
and was living with a friend in his parents pool/guest room.

The friend and I forged a lifelong relationship and he is now
my roomate at my home I purchased after my divorce. Life
sometimes does full circles.

Lennon was a great artist with much worldwide respect.
He has been greatly missed by many.

Does anyone remember where they were when they heard that news?
How many of you are old enough to remember?

It was the morning after (the 9th) at the breakfast table in my house when I heard it on the radio. Even as a 15 year old, I was quite shocked at the news and wondered why anyone would want to harm this peace loving man. I was also a big fan of the Beatles music, and most all of their individual solo work.

Continue to rest in peace, John.

You don't have to like someone's music to respect the impact they had on music.

I wish his life ended sooner ... or at least his music career... He and his beatle boyfriends still released a hell of a lot of shitty songs and polluted the airwaves with their gay hippie music.

All this guy ever did is do drugs and dish out crap songs.

Its like if someone shoots britney fucking spears tomorrow 25 years later everyone will be calling her a saint and shit and be moved by her death.

COME ON ... GIVE IT A REST.

The only problem with the shooting is that the dumb asshole that shot Lennon didnt fucking shoot all the other dumb beatles.
Only reason these dumb assholes even sold a record is because of all the drugs people were doing back then. You have to be really stoned to enjoy that constant nagging they call music.

Its not that i dont like his music ... (Ok ... that is a part of it) ... its mostly because people act as if he was some kind of saint and make it sound like its one of the most important things that ever happend.

WELL ITS NOT. M@therF@cker is dead ... and has been for the last 25 years ... CAN WE MOVE ON??? PLEASE????

He was one of the most influential figures of his time and this is one of the main reasons you see people reffering to him till today. It has nothing to do with his murder; do you think people discovered John after his death? That's not the case.

Don't force me open a Lennon fanclub in Limassol and bring on board all british and irish residents :-)

The man wrote the multiple times voted as the best song of past century, it's not fair to call him overrated. I can see past generations being influenced by the whole '60s craziness, beatlesmania and so on, but new generations were not given this "brainwash" and still recognize him this position.

I just saw a BBC presentation by Tom Brook about Lennon's assassination. He was the same reporter who covered the incident in New York 25 years ago.
