"Trophy Video" of Civilian Shootings By Contractors Emerges
by Hunter Sun Nov 27, 2005 at 03:27:47 PM PDT Oh, that's just great. Just great. From the Sunday Telegraph (UK): A "trophy" video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal. The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis. According to the Telegraph reporter, the video is even set to music: "Mystery Train", by Elvis Presley. And so the circle -- or spiral -- continues. For those with short memories, it was the alleged misconduct of armed contractors in Iraq that led to the killing and public display of four of them, hanging from a bridge... which led to two separate massive retaliatory assaults against Fallujah... which led to a widespread backlash in Iraq... which led to, among other things, a widened insurgency... which contributed to a situation in Iraq in which armed contractors are necessary for protection of private clients... which led to the alleged misconduct of several of them... Which leads to what, I wonder? Oh, I remember. Now comes the part where reporting civilian deaths is anti-American, because the Iraqis themselves really can't figure out that this crap is going on until they see it in British and American newspapers. Because they don't know when their own relatives have been killed until some paragon of American soldierness posts trophy pictures of them in exchange for Internet porn, or some dumbass "security contractor" sets it to music and puts it on their website. God help us. And I mean that literally. Update [2005-11-27 17:54:48 by Hunter]: And see here, from the LA Times: WASHINGTON ? One hot, dusty day in June, Col. Ted Westhusing was found dead in a trailer at a military base near the Baghdad airport, a single gunshot wound to the head. The Army would conclude that he committed suicide with his service pistol. At the time, he was the highest-ranking officer to die in Iraq. The Army closed its case. But the questions surrounding Westhusing's death continue. Westhusing, 44, was no ordinary officer. He was one of the Army's leading scholars of military ethics, a full professor at West Point who volunteered to serve in Iraq to be able to better teach his students. He had a doctorate in philosophy; his dissertation was an extended meditation on the meaning of honor. |

I guess they missed the Humvee that was driving by in the last scene when they were owning that white compact car. I bet the guys in the hummer fucked them asshats up.
Also if you listen carefully, you can hear some kind of radio in the background. They must have a scanner or something, listening to Allied radio chatter so they know when to run.

in every scene they are shooting cars approaching fast from behind. What they are doing to the uninformed looks like target practice , what they are actually doing is trolling for suicide bombers i think..
If you look close they drop markers to notfiy people behind them they are military/haveguns. Cars approching fast are shot on the grill , then continually if they do not stop.. The one guy in a minivan must have been a bad guy because after his car is shot multiple times , he continues to try to pull up on the dudes shooting him.. Perhaps they dont know who is shooting them .

infact in the very last scene TWO humvees pass, one passes , then they fire ont he white car , then another humvee passes, the camera and gunman must be looking right at the humvee, if this was just random firing , they would have not shot the white car.

Print-friendy versionPrint Email this storyEmail Last Update: Saturday, December 10, 2005. 8:00am (AEDT) US military probes video of Iraqi civilian shootings The United States military has launched a formal criminal investigation into a video that appears to show contractors firing on civilian vehicles in traffic in Iraq, a military spokesman said. The video, which has been circulating on the Internet, shows a compilation of video clips taken from the rear window of a vehicle showing other cars on the road apparently coming under fire from it. No faces appear in the video and only a few words are heard on the soundtrack that was dubbed over with an Elvis Presley song Mystery Train. But at one point the silhouette of a barrel of an automatic weapon is visible inside the vehicle, followed by what appears to be a burst of fire. In another clip, the impact of rounds can be seen hitting a vehicle on an open road. The vehicle then can be seen coming to a slow stop. The video clips first appeared on a blog site called "Aegis PSD" operated by a former employee of Aegis Defence Services LTD, a British firm with a $US293 million contract to provide the US Government with security services in Iraq. "There is an investigation under way by the US Army's Criminal Investigation Division in Iraq," said Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson, a spokesman for the Multi National Force-Iraq in Baghdad. "When investigators became aware of the tape, they put it under review and subsequently decided that a formal investigation is warranted. We do not disclose any aspects of CID investigations while they are ongoing." Aegis Defence Services Ltd said it had no connection to the website where the video appeared but it was maintained by a former member of an Aegis security escort team. It said it has established a formal board of enquiry with US military authorities to investigate "whether the footage has any connection with the company and, should this prove to be the case, under what circumstances any incident took place". The company provides the US Government with protection for military and civilian personnel travelling throughout Iraq, it said. The company said its personnel in Iraq operate under rules of engagement set by the US military, the State Department and the now defunct Coalition Provisional Authority. "These rules of engagement allow for a structured escalation of force to include opening fire on civilian vehicles under certain circumstances," the company said in a statement posted on its website. "All incidents of the use of such escalation of force, which includes the use of firearms, are logged and investigated to ensure that there has been strict adherence to the rules of engagement," it said. "Should any incident recorded on the video footage have involved Aegis personnel, this too will be subject to scrutiny by the board of enquiry." http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems...2/s1528097.htm
