AOL 9.0 SE Problems with FTP?

Hi, I just recently reinstalled my workstation after replacing toasted hard drive and I'm having problems with ACTIVE FTP (as opposed to PASSIVE) with a broadband connection on AOL 9.0 SE. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Prior to my hd crash, I was running AOL 9.0 Optimized on DSL XP (incl SP2) without any problems. To restore my system, I ended up with AOL 9.0 SE (that's what they distribute now).

The specific problem has to do with PORT commands - external FTP servers are unable to establish a DATA connection with the FTP client program after a PORT command is issued (eg when trying to LIST the remote dir).

At first I thought this was a firewall issue, but the FTP client has full access granted.

To elminate the client as a culprit, I tried 4 other major FTP programs with the same results.

To eliminate any potential internal firewall issues with AOL, I tried accessing half a dozen other FTP sites including their own - problem persisted.

Again, this worked fine for years on the same machine with the same software.

For completeness, I established a dial-up connection instead of the Broadband (using same machine, same AOL 9.0 SE, same FTP client app) and IT WORKED.

AOL denies any problems with their 9.0 SE, but did point me to an older 9.0 release to try and roll back and see if the problem goes away.

Has anyone else had this specific problem?

Thanks,
-Dino

when running aol on a highspeed connection, all connections are "hooked" through aol...infact the dll's are typically called smtphook, ftphook etc. etc.

thats the problem you run into when you have established another static ip connection with your computer

think of it as running dsl & cable on multiple nic cards...then trying to get your ftp to run through one or the other

Have you considered downloading the version of aol that worked? You can usually find them on the free download sites.

pr0, because this worked before, I'm tryng to find the delta, but I understand what you mean.Thanks.

chadglni, I'm rolling back to the older working version to verify, but I was hoping someone might have some parallel experience. Thanks.

Re the bonehead responses -- you're welcome for the sig opp.

Older versions of AOL didn't hook connections, so if you can get 7.0-8.0 i think or below you should be alright.

I've nailed 27 girls from aol chatrooms, (head, dates, drinks & dinner from dozens more), not quite james bond status, but getting there....with aol you get nothing but stupid chicks with a computer & $29 to throw away....just the way i like em

I'm about to try 9.0 which worked before (prior to SE) and if that bombs, I'll try 8.0 (which is supposed to be broadband compatible).

Damn those AOL hookers

Thanks again.

Your major problem, of course, is that you chose to use AOL. lol
