:mad Personal Observation

I have to admit, I was thrilled at the news today of the mentally disturbed idiot running through the aisle of an airplane shouting that he had a bomb - having been shot dead by air marshalls!

Imho it sometimes takes extreme measures like that to instill in people's minds the gravity of their own personal responsibility to conduct themselves in accordance with established laws, rules and regulations. So what if he was mentally disturbed and his wife was shouting he was off his meds - it was their responsibility to make sure that never happened - especially onboard an airplane.

I have no sympathy for either the man or his wife. It was due to their lack of personal responsibility that he is dead tonight. Similarly I have no doubt that the ACLU or *insert other whacky activist group name here* will take legal action against the United States of America on behalf of this man on the grounds that shooting him somehow infringed on his right to free speech - just watch.

If you must, the whole story is here: http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/07/air...hot/index.html

Hate away, I couldn't care less.....

The moron got what he deserved. Tired of hearing excuses all day long in this country about bad behavior. If you're an asshole, shape up. If you have mental problems take your fuckin' meds.

I'm with you 100%. Act out of control, and be prepared to face the music. Can you imagine the shit other people on the plane were thinking? The feeling of relief when they dropped his ass must have been intense.

My wife has worked at least one flight (flight attendant) where the flight crew detained a passenger with the help of other passengers without the onboard FAMs even blinking an eye, let alone IDing themselves.

It takes quite a bit to get a FAM to ID themself and draw a weapon. If you get them that far you best comply with their commands, because they won't hesitate to drop you.

What is it with people these days? The correct phrase is I couldn't care less - not you COULD care less... saying that means you really care a lot, whereas you are most likely trying to say you don't care.

People just have no idea how to use English correctly anymore. I blame black people.

I have a feeling that the guy was just fucking around, trying to be funny after a few too many in-flight cocktails, but hey what do ya expect? In this day and age you just cannot do that shit, at all.

THey shouldn't have stepped on that plane, the wife knew he wasn't on his meds.
I almost blame it on his wife, who could have stopped the whole thing from happening if she had kept his ass off the plane until he was medicated enough to handle it.

And yes, in the state of the world after 9/11, the guy did truly get what he deserved.

Had the guy been a real terrorist and not just bi-polar off his meds, and the air marshall failed to act - well, we all know the results of that scenario.

Likewise, I blame the wife for not ensuring the guy was properly medicated. Too bad the guy had to die...but the air marshall was just doing his job from the sounds of it.

Is it outside the realm of possibility that perhaps this guy wasn't just 'off his meds' but was maybe just drunk, an idiot, or something else along those lines?

The whole situation sucks ass. I feel for the dead guy and his wife. But the fact remains that the Marshall did his job. Good on him. I just hope he doesn't feel too guilty. He did nothing wrong IMO.

What happened is unfortunate, and the air marshall acted the way he should have... but stop talking shit about the guy who was killed, he obviously was not all there in the head, and if anything, his wife shouldn't have let him board the plane without his meds.

I agree. Even if for some reason she couldn't get the meds and they really needed to take that plane how hard would it be to inform the plane crew of the situation?

People now days don't accept responsability for anything just check the Warcraft thread posted a while ago.

The guy who is now dead, must've had a very distorted perspective of reality. You dont go around saying you have a bomb when you're in a plane, the same way you dont go around waving toy guns at officers. If you do, you will get shot.

i agree 100%. i would have shot him in the same circumstances. they did the right thing whether the bleeding hearts want to admit it or not. they shot to stop the threat. the guy reached into his bag when told to surrender. he could have been reaching to detonate a bomb. you never know nowadays. the last place you want to be an idiot is anywhere near an airport. they were justified. i've had extensive use of force training in the air force and graduated from a civilian P.O.S.T. academy after i got out. in that situation any officer with a brain would have done the same thing.

That is probably right, but the people that sue the US over this will not think so. they will think that the CIA and FBI need to do thier job better, and read the minds of the people comming into the states.

One of my friends (back in high school, we were teens) passed the metal detector, beeped then said "Oh, it's just my gun..."
Dumb ass got FULL search, was detained for 4 hours, missed the flight (we were there as a class) ... His own fault.

i assume he was moving when they had to shoot him, and it's much easier to target the torso than a few sticks (at a range). also.. if you don't shoot to kill, he still might've been able to detonate regardless of a leg wound.

Injured men can still detonate bombs. And, assuming they heard the wife, how were they to know she wasn't helping him get the job done?

My money is on the guy going apeshit running off the plane cause some fat sweaty fuck in a Hawaiian shirt was staring at him. The part about him reaching into a bag or "to the effect that he had a bomb" is made up bullshit. Of course they have to justify blowing away some dude-- "he said he had a bomb" is the easiest way out of that quandary.

You've never experienced a cop powertripping before? Everyone on the plane heard what his wife was saying. The guy ran off of the plane, yet they still shot him.

It's pretty sad actually.

Yep it's all him. He is so stupid but yet he has tricked us all into believing there are terrorists, make believe characters, that want to kill us.

freedom means you can do what you want when you want so long as it doesn't remove that right from someone else.

that guy removed the right to safty for the flight of everyone else on that plane - and deserved to be shot dead in today's climate of air travel.

if his wife knew he had a problem she should have used preventative measures and sedated him

That's what I've heard from 5 friends of mine who are FAs for Delta and AA. This had to be quite an issue for the FAMs to not only indentify themselves, but draw AND shoot.

None of us were there but from what I've read and heard, the FAMs did EXACTLY what I would want them to do if I was on that flight.
