List the some of your first jobs / places you have worked in your youth.

I have quite the ensemble. I have had to work since 15 (really before that if you count mowing lawns). It is funny to think back to your first jobs. It has been a long time, but you learn something everywhere you work.

Here is mine:

Fast Food places:::
McDonalds
Taco Bell

Sacker at a Price Chopper (midwest)

Lots of restaraunts::::
Chiles
Olive Garden
Couple of big Hollywood and Malibu spots

Pharmacy Technician

While in college full time I worked part time at GNC and as a personal fitness trainer at a Golds Gym.

My friend owned the gym, and my other friend managed the GNC. I have never worked for "the man"

all throughout highschool I worked for slave wages in a grocery store as the head night stalker.

every monday and thursday a big 18 wheeler with usally 8-10 pallets, each stacked about 5-6ft high full of groceries would come in and we would stay in the store until about 3-4 AM every Mon. and Thurs. night/morning.

it really fucked sucked but it made me learn and know the working mans struggle first hand. spending countless hours working my ass off and getting paid shit wages for it(Min. Wage) I had to work there a fucking year and a half until they gave me a DOLLAR raise, whoop-de-fucking-doo that shit was. though I was happy for the raise because I know i fucking deserved it for all the bullshit I had to go through twice every fucking week for a year and a half.

the only cool part about the job and the reason I keep working there for so long was that that I was get there at 5pm and the store closed down completely at 9pm. so from 9pm to about 4am in the morning , me and 3 other guys that where a few years younger then me had complete controll over the store. we fucked around a lot but we got the job done.

then they changed my schedule up on me, the truck started coming in at 5AM in the morning instead of 5PM. they changed my work schedule without informing me nor even asking me if I was ok with the idea so one Monday i just didnt come in at 5am and went back two weeks later and collected my last two paychecks and never been back since.

after highschool i briefly worked at my friends grandfathers fence building company. now fence building is 100x times harder than working in a air conditioned grocery store all night. busting knuckles open with sledge hammers and working in 98 F degree weather is no fun at all.

never fucking again will I do manual labor, i hate it with every white blood cell in my body.

I've been making money through various internet projects since I was 12. I've only ever been employed by two companies, GTS briefly and currently AGHI working a few evenings a week as a debt collector for a major U.S. bank. Base pay isn't the best but I make up for it with commission . I'm currently 19.

Started working when I was 15 here to ... Worker's Permit deal through school so I could work before I was 16. 3 weeks before i was 16 I had my first truck, an 85 Ford Ranger paid for in Full and insurance money set aside ;) $1600 truck plus insurance all paid by mself - I used to have so much ambition, lol... Thank god, slowly... It's starting to come back!

Telemarketing, every fast foot job you can think of...

The two jobs that stick out in my mind were

A) Arby's - Fired for Drinking on the job, lol
B) Burger Express (a trailer turned into a burger place) nothing but pure dead heads worked there. Everyone was cool as shit, we used to toke when we took the trash out etc.. we took turns making excuses to get high every hour lol. One uncool boss dude there - Joe something.. one day he bitched about me putting too many onions on a Chilli Dog, I looked at him and chuckled under my breath. He said "Oh you think that's funny bitch?" and took the chilli dog w/onions smashing it into my chest and rubbing it in - Needless to say, I quit that day...

I see telemarketing made the list....reminds me...

I used to work for Direct Loans, collections.

Funny, I showed up the first day and the dialer dialed my first call. I stayed on and talked with the guy a bit. The guys was not the one in collections, it was his roommate. The manager was upset that I was wasting time talking about KU Basketball but his manager loved the call (they listened in). So they moved me to another department. It was the department where you dialed people that had been deliquint for years on years, and had 0 intention of paying. You basically sat around, smoked cigarettes and tried to befriend people that would lead you to these people, then of course you had to get them to pay.

I never got one person to pay.

How long did you work in collections for? Looking back, did you learn anything that helped you in busness today? I currently work low delinquincy accounts (under 120 days).

I think I would have if I would have remained in the <120 days, such as you are in. Those past 11 years and such, they just don't care. I learned unique ways to track people down, things that are nill and void in today's Internet savvy world.

Classic!

I setup appointments for $250,000 worth of sales in around a year's time at window and siding company... ACRI ... who pretty much targetted the Quad Cities... I remember how many 80 and 90 year old people I ended up on hour long calls with - was part of the trade in that business. Basically, you were a con man with a license.. Sad really, but it did pay well !

Hey Andy, hope all is well...

I used to tip Door Men/Concierges well - more so Concierges of course... Then again, I used to tip everyone well. I always just assumed everyone else did as well and they made hell of money. Even when I have been in situations where it was a treat to go out and eat at a decent restaurant because times were tough... I always tipped well beyond normal when given good service with the right attitude.

I have also walked away from tables leaving nothing for a tip before too. All depended on the person's attitude to me, which the majority of the time was atleast worth 15%

newspaper route as a kid and branched out to develop a pretty good TV Guide route which was my own business. Then as an older teen I started selling concert t-shirts - illegal since they were my own designs but sometimes i would make a killing, sometimes a bust and i'd sell the shirts for a couple bucks a piece to get my money back.

first real working man's job - a brutal summer door factory where almost nobody spoke English - big doors i had to lift - but the end of the day my arms just trembled for hours.

camp counsellor for two slacker summers - then a summer working as an Avis Rental car jockey at the airport.

bartender for a catering company to make extra money.

managed a drive-in movie theater for another summer. that was an adventure.

and a dishwasher and busboy at bar/steakhouse.

Am I the only one who noticed "Pharmacy Technician" at the VERY bottom?

from 15-18 i worked at the local horsetrack, cleaning the grandstand and bar. it wasn't a bad job since my boss was my friends mom. it didn't matter when we came in as long as we got what needed to be done, done on time.

from 18-20 i mostly fucked around, had a few factory jobs here and there but nothing that lasted more than a few months.

from 20-27 and hopefully for a long time to come, been doing the webmaster thing.
