Why the fuck are projectors so expensive

Am I missing something? Can anyone who has a projector tell me why its better to pay $2k for a box the size of a VCR instead of a 50" plasma?

Portable, can get much bigger size screens than 50" I agree though for what they are, they are overpriced.

It's because the business world were the main purchasers for presentations, and stuff. As more consumers purchase them, the prices should come down quite a bit.

Expensive? They're so cheap these days it's a joke. Why is it better than a plasma? Can you fill your entire wall with a plasma?

projectors are the shit to play video games on

we are allowed to 'check out' projectors from our college library for a week at a time.

we will check them out and have a gaming fest for a week and then take it back in and walk right back out with another one.

projectors rock!

I bought mine about 5 or so years ago, an svga lcd one for over $4k with crap contrast. Nowadays any DLP projector for a little over $1k blows it out of the water.

I was just looking at these yesterday.. I was surprised at how small some of the actual images the 1-2k projectors made.. like not really that much bigger than plasma.

Depends on the room size, the further back you put it, the bigger the image gets, but that goes without saying. Also has to do with the lens throw.

I hate the picture quality on projectors, there is so much missing!

my 62" DLP is performing very well lately!

yeah it wasn't how far back you could put it (which i must admit was what i assumed was the main limiting factor) it was literally no matter what you do it was only 50" was only a cheapy though - it was bundled in with a multimedia system i was looking at so i checked it out further and found it wasn't the whole-wall-coolness i thought i might be. Going to look further into them though.
