Saltwater tanks. OMFG it is so expensive. Hired a company to set everything up. Getting a 150 gallon reef tank. Two 46 gallon fish only tanks are set up now with the live rock in them. I had no idea this crap was so complicated. Post pics of your setup if you got them, I am looking for ideas.
So I started a new hobby..What a Money pit it is. LOL

i used to have a normal 10 gallon freshwater tank. it would always get all dirty and green after like a month so i threw that shit out...Comment

We sold ours, Chris had one all set up before we were together and when we started dating it wasn't set up anymore. I wasn't about to put the money into it to get it all going again. We sold it on EBay and some guy drove up from AZ to buy it. Fine by me, get it off my hands.Comment

Salt water tanks are difficult to maintain.
The fish are a lot more expensive too, so when one dies you get pissed off. hehNeed a reliable, reasonably priced php programmer? Hit me up! 2934409Comment

We started a salt water tank about 3 months ago and decided to start with a small one at first to "test the waters" a bit before I go with a larger & taller custom display tank that runs the length of my dining room wall.
I also thought it would be cool to stock it with our own fish & marine animals that we catch around our home and when I go fishing.
So far we have had and good luck with several different species except for the fact that some species are too aggressive and eat some of the other less aggressive. For example I had a Grey Snapper & 2 Pin fish that I had to let go because they would eat all my other fish.
At the moment we have:
Oysters
Clams
Snails
Hermit Crabs
Flounder
SheepsHead
Gobies
Something I have no idea what it is.
shrimp & minnows that we throw in for food
The neatest thing so far were these tiny squid about 2 inches long. They would change colors & patterns very quickly, just like most of the other fish do when they are feeding. The squid died in just a few hours though.
It's been trial and error.
Here are a few pics:

amazing... been wanting a saltwater tank for ages but my uncle had one yrs ago a huge one, all pc controlled n all till some moron maid pulled a plug to vacuum and $40k was gone in like 24 hrs... no backup batteries in those days... he made a smaller new one amazing even with sunrise n all
I looked but there are just 2 stores in Holland who deal with it... prices are insane... so what do you guys pay to set up a small saltwater tank?

Yeah, a cichlid tank with crushed coral really is the next best thing to a marine tank. I completely fucked mine up by doing too large a water change. The fish just freaked out and died. Too much of a shock to their system. Pity too, 'cause i had one of the most majestic breeding pair of electric yellows you'd ever lay your eyes on.Originally posted by UniqueMoviesNot salwater cause there is no way I could do it but here is my tank

Must get around to starting my tank up again.26 + 6 = 1Comment

i though you were going to say something like collecting comic books.
That is an expensive hobby, i have a couple golden age books which are worth more than the house they are stored in.
You should have seen the face of the insurance agent when i was buying the policy for that property.Comment

When I was about 12 I just had to have an aquarium. I saved my money from delivering papers and got one. It was nice for a while, but I grew tired of caring for it. My parents made me take care of it cuz it was in the family room and everyone could see it. It was an eyesore when it turned green. I couldn't wait for the last fish to croak so I could take it down. One day my aunt was visiting from out of town. The last fish died and I acted like I was sad cuz I didn't want her to think I was a little monster who reveled in his pet's demise. I must have acted a little too well, cuz when I came home from school the next day she had filled the fucking thing up with fish again.
