Server Managment Turorials

I am purchasing a dedicated server soon, and was just wondering if you guys could recommend some good tutorials for a total newbie.

The server will most likely be red hat linux running apache. I'd like tutorials that describe daily and basic managment chores.

is it a Cobalt Raq?

if so, it's got gobs of info built into it to guide you through stuff....

but of course, you could always go to Apache's website and start reading too.....

If it runs under FreeBSD (and it should!), try the handbook:

Good luck with it. We've just moved from something with a nice little interface that does it all (RAQ's are even better in this respect - almost idiot proof) to a freebsd with webmin. Great interface but a steep learning curve. Sorta fun though.

Ahhh raq's arent bad if all your going to do is throw a bunch of mom and pop sites on it, or even adult sites, as long as all there doing is images and html, throw cgi and sql into the mix on anything bigger than a small to medium site than you have problems.

I used to hate em, but the do serve a purpose, but if I was to buy one I would get a decent machine that has room for growth unlike a raq, with double to triple the cpu speed and ram and still costs less than half of what a raq gives you...

Like you say RAQ's have their uses. I wouldn't use one for an adult site but they can be fine for low to medium 'normal' sites. There's a UK company does them for $45 a month with 20 gig bandwidth. Very cheap for simple e-commerce type sites
