registering a new domain, my domain goes active right away. changing dns servers goes active right away. if you admin your own box, you can just update everything yourself.

I dont know what your problem is
i just switched my nameservers over to another hosting company on one domain of mine and in 4 minutes it was changed and working on my other host. i <3 how fast dns changes now

as long as you update your serial numbers and change the IN NS records and reload your dns should work fine.
