I know there were all kinds of races and ethnicities discriminiated against...even religious affiliations. My father was taunted and forced to sit in the back of the bus in his hometown when his parents took him out of Catholic School and put him in public school. It was the baptis bus driver who forced him to sit in the back of the bus. Sure he had a hard time of it...and they treated him badly...bus driver included only because he was Catholic...but the fact that he was white...he could always blend in outisde of those who knew him...and rise above that which tried to keep him down. Kinda hard to do if your skin is another color. Now don't get me wrong...I'm not into affirmative action...I believe it equal reverse discrimination. I believe people should be hired based only on experience, education and merits. I also feel that one of the new emerging minorities are single white guys. But I can also concede tho' that there has been a definite imbalance in power for so many years before...nothing can ever really make up for it...but for people to choose for themselves to rise above it...because in my opinion the best success is revenge. |

As blacks are 12 percent of the population, these figured meant they were 50 times as likely to committ acts of interracial violence as whites. Blacks were 150 to 250 times more likely than whites to committ interracial gang rapes and assaults. Even in the hate crimes category, less than 1 percent of interracial crimes, blacks were twice as likely to be the assilants as the victim. Who are the victims? |

Like most of us, I am more afraid when I see a crowd of blacks than whites because of the crime statistics. I am also disconcerted when I see blacks wearing baggy clothes and talking slang instead of correct English. These things are a problem. At the same time, people like yourself have to tone down your biases. You cannot deny the history that has helped to create the current condition of black and white relations. No black person today was ever a slave, generations earilier were and that does play a role in the now. For instance, many of the wealthy people of the world today had nothing to do with their wealth. It was all inherited by a family member who made that wealth long ago. |

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. My elementary school was part of the mandatory bussing experiment in 1981-1982. They bussed us to a school in Chatsworth in a liberal attempt to force cultural exchange and understanding between students. That didn't work out well. I have been the victim of racially motivated attacks. I've been robbed, beaten, stabbed and experienced constant verbal abuse - all before I was 15 years old. I'm white. |

GregP, you probably didn't witness the kind of shit I'm talking about cause you grew up in a predominantly black neighbourhood. I grew up in a middle, and middle upper class white neighbourhoods. I got kicked the shit out of on a regular basis.

I learned racism in high school when 3 blacks jumped me because I refused to give one of them my coat. The black assistant principal suspended me for 2 weeks saying that I could have avoided the whole situation by just giving it to them. He also failed to mention that those 3 did anything wrong, and of course, they were not suspended. For quite some time after that, I was very anti-black as well as anti- anything and everyone not white. It wasn't until I got to college that I met a black guy that I actually got along with, and we became pretty good friends. It turns out that he was fairly anti-white at the time, though he ended up getting married to a white woman with 2 white kids from a previous marriage. We showed each other that not everyone that doesn't look like you is "out to get you", and there are plenty that DO look like you that actually ARE out to get you. So... disliking someone based solely on the color of their skin is, in fact, one of the best things you can do to show the world just how ignorant you really are.

You should have pressed charges as your civil rights were violated. It should have been reported as a hate crime as you were victimized because you were white.
THAT carries a much stiffer penalty. After all, if it would have been 3 white guys taking a coat from a black kid, it would have been on CNN and the white kids sent through sensitivity training and imprisoned. |

This was back in 1988, and black on white hate crimes are still not prosecuted as such. There have been NUMEROUS attacks on whites by blacks, because of skin color, just in the last year that were never prosecuted as hate crimes, or even mentioned as being what they truthfully were. But I bet we can all name several cases of whites being charged with hate crimes against blacks. This is not the fault of any race, however. It is the fault of the incompetent race-baiters that "we" elect to represent and "protect" us (even though THEY are the ones we need to be protected FROM). I wonder how quickly race-based crimes would dissipate if the media would ever quit fueling the fires? I no longer hate anyone based on their nationality (except for some middle eastern people... just trying to be honest here) and I really resent the media telling me that I do, and that my non-white friends needs to be protected from people like me.
