Tell me why...

we moved in to our new house last month and i've noticed something really weird... every 8 feet there are outlet plugs all through the house

it's out of hand: this is a big house so there are probably 60 or 70 double-plug outlets everywhere... it's a real fuckin eyesore when you're not using them

any idea why they think people need to plug in so much shit? and haven't they heard of power strips so we could do without all these goddamn holes?

so what's the reason for all these plugs?

because even the couches need to be plugged in these days.

In the age of faxes, computers, plugged in phones, lights, palm devices, printers, couches, tv's, receivers, dvd's, vcr's and everything else... more plugs are required.

There's never been a demand for outlets like it before.

i see what you're saying, but most of those items really need to be on a power strip surge protector anyhow, to avoid power spikes (common here in AZ especially)

and why would the formal dining room need 4 double-outlet walls plugs? oh and there are 10 in the kitchen alone... it's unreal

That's an idea. Or before you paint the wall you can take the plugs out, tie off the end of the wire then fill the hole. Is it a textured wall that is so common here in az?

It is the NEC ( National Electric Code )

It is so people do not use those octopus set ups and try to over load one outlet.

The idea is that is you have an outlet every six feet, you will not have to use extension cords.

...........and the other reason other than the NEC is for the contractor to make more money.

The more receptacles they install .... the more money !

Even more so if it is a time and material job ... they get paid based on the time it takes and the material used.

that is standard for any construction in the last 20 years or so. i'd say my house has more than that, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

yeah that does make sense i suppose... thanks for explaining it bro

i guess in small rooms it's not so bad, but in big ones it looks outta control

LOL tho the cleaning crew love the outlets everywhere for the vaccuums

Most of the time a contractor will use the cheap white ones..... but now a days they have all these " decor " or fancy style outlets and covers to match your design.

That would break the ( NEC ) national electric code. I know all this crap because I have an Contractor / Inspector NEC licence... if you do anything that violated the NEC as a home owner you can void your property insurance !

LOL you'd think for the cost of new homes nowadays they could spring for the $5 panels instead of the 50-cent ones!

anyhow, thanks for the tip, gonna check out the Home Depot for some nicers ones

Yeah I know what you mean.... the contractor will want to save as much as they can from the initial bid. They will bid very low with only the basics and cheapest material possible to get the contract. Then add on the cost to do extra's. ( time and material )

Also they may not know what the interior designer or home owner has in mind for decorating.

But the style and design can be from simple to real pieces or art. Of course the price will just go up.

I like decor myself, they look good ( imo ) and are affordable to do a whole house. They also come in many different colors.

Enjoy that house for a year, and then move into a home that does not have that may outlets. You will wonder how you ever survived.

Sounds like someonnnnnnnnne needs to talk to the connnntractorrrr.

For real, that sounds horrible, get it fixed before you move in and your head explodes.

I'm sure they can recess and cover that stuff, catch them while they got the wall guys around...
