canon 350d technical question..

How does autofocus work with the 350d? I assume its computer calculated
autofocus although i just read a resource that says its passive autofocus
and this would mean infrared or something the cam sends out..

Any ideas?

if it actually sent out infrared, then it wouldn't have trouble focusing in the dark, so obviously that claim is incorrect....

Well.. infrared focussing is a very common technogoly used for AF.

20 years ago they used Sonar for it.

Some sonys use infrared, no the canon does not. Your camera use a 7 point system that when you depress the shutter halfway it picks what is thinks is the closest focal point. It is sometimes wrong. Check out how you can manually move your focus point selector around before hitting the shutter if your having problems.
