also many people mistake other larger breeds having the "look" of a pit as being a king pit, saying that they are a king sized breed of pitbull... usually these dogs are a presa canario or something similar... a true king pit is a pit that has descended from the king bloodline which was the sire dog...

I've done a lot of research on Pits since I got mine, and the main thing I've found out is that nobody knows for sure where Pits come from except they know that English Bulldogs and Terriers were in the mix. English Bulldogs are descended from the type of dog you're talking about, and Terriers were small, agile hunting dogs. Their main job before bullbaiting and organized dogfighting came around was to go into boar holes and chase them out, and to jump on bears in a pack and bleed them out to slow them down enough to be killed by hunters.

Even minimal research will show that Pits score above average in temperament tests of all breeds, and that until the late 80's they were considered to be a great family dog. Gangsters changed that perception.

i agree with everything you just said... i have read the same thing... but, they all originated with the old roman mollosser breed.

There is no such thing as a 'King Pit' unless you're just talking about dogs bred from some Pit named 'King'.

exactly, it only goes to show how ignorant some people are... i know a guy who thinks he has a "king pit" i tried to tell him otherwise, but he is too set on the idea that he has a special breed of super pit, lol.

I think the child should have been able to walk alone, sounds like it was only a few blocks. The asshole in this story is the guy with 6 Pits, which means he was breeding them. Almost every time you see something like this happen it's the same story, the dude had 12 Pits on chains in the backyard. Backyard breeders are uniformly true shitheels, and breeding Pits is just a scheme to them like the weed they're trying to grow in the attic. imho they should penalize such breeders VERY VERY heavily for this kind of shit, and you wouldn't see it nearly as often. You can do almost anything to an animal, perpetrate ANY cruelty and the most you'll get is a slap on the wrist and a warning not to do it again. If that.

Pits are highly social, and need to be involved with the family at all times, they're not a breed that's supposed to be kept in the back yard on a stake.
