Wide Screen monitor, does it increase your productivity?

the store guy told me my productivity would increase by at least 25% with the $1,000+ wide screen monitor!

LOL... No, a single widescreen does not improve productivity. However, multi-monitor set-ups DO increase productivity

It will increase productivity somewhat if you multitask alot and have several windows open all the time, but it can't beat 2-3 monitors.

Why not get help? it's not like the stuff you buy will cost you more because you got help from them and they got their commission.

From the original article referenced:

"....The workers swore that this arrangement made them feel calmer. But did more screen area actually help with cognition? To find out, Czerwinski's team conducted another experiment. The researchers took 15 volunteers, sat each one in front of a regular-size 15-inch monitor and had them complete a variety of tasks designed to challenge their powers of concentration - like a Web search, some cutting and pasting and memorizing a seven-digit phone number. Then the volunteers repeated these same tasks, this time using a computer with a massive 42-inch screen, as big as a plasma TV.

The results? On the bigger screen, people completed the tasks at least 10 percent more quickly - and some as much as 44 percent more quickly...."

They are comparing the results from a 15" vs a 42" screen

I've got a widescreen laptop. (1900 x 1200 i think)

One thing that is true... is I can open up chat windows and chat programs running on the side of my screen .... passively glances over to look at who's logged on and/or if somebody is talking to me I can read the message.

This is possible while I have a web browser sized to the largest width it needs (1200) I still have 700 pixels remaining...

So ... I guess there is a very small benefit to not having to pull off what you're doing... go down to the task bar and click the message that is flashing to see what was just said.

HOWEVER... more often than not... I click the maximize button on a browser...out of habit ... take up all 1900x1200 of the desktop...and waste most of it with the white space
