One Letter Web Addresses Could Be Coming Soon

One-Letter Web Address Could Come Soon
Yahoo Already Has Eyes On Y.Com

POSTED: 12:46 pm PST November 28, 2005

NEW YORK -- Are Internet site names getting too long to remember?

Here are some that could be as easier -- a.com, b.com and c.com.

The Internet's key oversight agency is going to chart a course for single-letter Web addresses as early as this weekend. That's when the agency's board meets in Vancouver, B.C. to decide whether and how to release the names.

At its meeting Sunday, it could ask staff to come up with a proposal or refer the matter to a committee for further study.

Yahoo -- one of the Internet's biggest companies -- has already applied for a trademark to y.com.

I think I might fight yahoo for the y.com name. This could take years and years in the court system and it will be very, very expensive, so I'll need some help. Who's in with me?

They won't get patent, but knowing the right person might help.
