300 Gb Dvd?

Check this out...

"A computer disc about the size of a DVD that can hold 60 times more data will go on sale in 2006, according to its American developer InPhase Technologies, a Lucent spin off.

The discs, holding 300GB each, use so-called Tapestry holographic memory technology to store data by interference of light. They are also able to read and write data at 10 times the speed of a normal DVD."

Dre, it will be years before the average home user will be able to afford it.

The corporate IT market will eat it the fuck up though.

A company in Japan has been developing holographic storage for some five years now, it's going to be a reality in the near future and it's going to kick the living crap outta other optical formats easily. I can't wait for semi-reasonable priced video storage, hard drives are getting expensive to have just laying around.

Tapestry can store more than 26 hours of broadcast-quality high-definition video on a single 300GB disk, recorded at a data rate of 160Mbps. The discs are 13cm in diameter and a little wider and thicker than conventional DVDs.

Sounds like a disc to me?

Blue Ray technologies are completley different. It talks about them in a few of the articles about the holographic techs.
