Really? I have a buddy who has HCV and he has been told by the doctors that there are only experimental drugs that have a lower than 40% chance of working.

Description

Just one exposure may be enough to transmit the infection. Although hepatitis C accounts for 90% of cases related to blood transfusions, this is now a rare cause of the disease, because donor blood has been tested for it since 1989. HCV may occasionally be transmitted through sexual contact. Some 40% of people infected with HCV have no identifiable history of exposure to it.

Unlike hepatitis A and B, previous infection with HCV does not produce immunity. There also is no vaccine for HCV, and the hepatitis A and B vaccines do not provide immunity against hepatitis C.

Symptoms
Hepatitis C usually produces few or no symptoms early in its course -- and when they do occur, they resemble the symptoms of many other medical conditions. The symptoms may be very mild and flu-like -- for example, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, joint pain, headache, fever, and nausea. This is why so many people with HCV don't know they're infected. Hepatitis C does not usually cause the jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) common in other liver diseases, but it can occur.

Treatment
Currently, the only FDA-approved medication for treating hepatitis C is a drug called interferon alfa-2b. Another agent, ribavirin, can sometimes be used with interferon and may result in more improvement. Finally, everyone known to be infected with HCV should avoid alcohol -- to prevent further liver damage -- as well as certain medications that also can affect the liver. HARD COPY reported that Tommy Lee DOES NOT have Hep C
He was on there with a copy of the medical report.

His lawyers are fighting to have Pam's medical records made available to them. They believe that this is only one more of her attempts to slow the custody hearings brought against her by Tommy Lee ...

She stated clearly in the complaint, that Tommy gave her Hep C from sharing a tattoo needle ...

Make sure that you request the RNA testing as it is FAR more accurate. The standard blood tests only test for the presence of the HepC anti-bodies that your body produces...not the disease itself

That is complete BullShit!! If you are one of the lucky people that get over Hep C you CAN"T get it again. The reason most people are unable to cure themselves of Hep C is that the disease mutates so quickly your bodies antigens are unable to keep up. According to the latest research available up to 50% of people that contract Hep C are now curing themselves.

"Finally, everyone known to be infected with HCV should avoid alcohol -- to prevent further liver damage -- as well as certain medications that also can affect the liver. Your doctor can tell you which medications are safe for you and which you should avoid. "

if you have tested positive for it GO SEE A SPECIALIST.

All of the info posted above I got was from a Dr. here in Toronto that runs a Liver Clinic and is the ackowledged leader in Hep C research.
