yep, they were tough cars to drive. There used to be a saying "Good drivers drive Porsche". So everyone went out to buy one because they thought they would be a good driver. These days the marketing on the Lexus/Acura etc is more like "We make everyone a good driver."Originally posted by thinkx
Another problem that they had with the car was the fact that they would overheat. It was a belt driven air/fan cooled engine. After running pushing the car through the back roads of Europe then having to slow down to go through the towns, the car wouldn't have enough heat to stay cool.
Porsche instructed the owners to keep the car in a low gear to keep the airflow up and the temp down. This became a trademark to sports cars because it would rattle all the small towns in Europe. Shortly after, Mercedes and Ferrari owners were caught doing the same thing.
These small "glitches" were notorious with Porsche through the 914 and 911s untill the 928 days. And the 928 almost put Porsche out of business.
