How many Computers do you Have?

Based off of a discussion in another post, I was wondering how many? Do most of you have 'home' and 'work' computers, or are they all one and the same, and if so, how many of them? (in other words, elaborate, dont just spit out a number)

I have ONE for home and work.

To remove ambiguity - I mean separate work stations.

If you move one HD from one computer to another - you really have 2 systems - you're just sharing data between them.

If you have 2 monitors on one box, you only have one system.

If you have 2 CPUs in the same box, you only have one system.

I know, I know, there are probably exceptions or some shit, but this will keep things simple. Ok?

All machines are online via cable lines and dsl - router/hub.

Hope no one else on the block is tryin to download.

You guys still go to work? I thought the coolest thing about being a webmaster was working from home? Shit, dont think after 3 years of working from home, if I could call another man "boss" or manager.

Fuck that, in all its purest forms, I will never work for anyone ever again. Damn that felt good.

More than 10 but I'm not sure how many. We only have a server box and 2 systems connected at the moment due to remodeling. More than 400 gigs in the 6 main systems we use. (swap a box out now and then)

Clay... dunno about some ppl here but we build our own systems. Purchase the hardware bits thru our old company contacts from wholesalers.

And yep, we have one box (or maybe 2) that are strictly for home use. No WAY do we allow our financial progs, acad etc be connected to the net.

First, I usually build mine. They're easier to build than to change oil on my car. In fact, I don't even know how to change oil in my car.

However. this last computer was built by the same lady that I get all my parts from.

Two at home... and, does an Amiga 600 hooked up to an old TV set count as a computer? You can do some bad ass graphics in Deluxe Paint III.

6. I had more but the wife is making me get rid of the units I am not using and doesn't want the old stuff cluttering up the place. I use four of them, two home built clones and two macs (a Powerbook 165 laptop for simple writing and Chet, my PPC7500 who is about due for his annual upgrade).

How about if you own a hosting company, does each server count?

If that's the case 80+ 1U servers at last count.. can't keep up.

Shit, I forgot about that. I have one server as my host, but I never really considered it as part of the group, since I don't really 'use' it. I guess I do sometimes, for programming, but mostly just to host pages, and I leave it alone.

I guess the question I was trying to get at was that I've become aware that most people have more than 1 computer that they regularly use ('use' as in sitting down in front of it, typing on its keyboard). In that sense, I only use one - I am never physically in front of my server, all I ever do is upload files to it or telnet to it from my single computer that I sit at.

A self built AMD1000 - main home pc that I do my work on and keep my entire laptop's harddrive mirrored on

Compaq Presario AMD1000 - away from home entertainment - full of games, DVD player and sometimes work on

AJP Intel266 - 15.1" screen looks really good - used for email - so my main 2 don't get infected

I have three, well actually four. The fourth one is an old Amiga 500 which is stored. Of the three I only use two myself. I have PC Anywhere connected to the second one so that I don't have to move from one desk to another.

I got into computers when I bought a Commodore Vic 20, then C64, then C128, then Amiga 500. I had a couple of articles printed in one of the mags that used to support the C64. I used to know that machine inside and out. I learned to program in BASIC and Assembly on it. It was one of my favorites.

I started on a Ti-99/4A, and went to a Tandy 1000 after that - it was PC ever since from there.
