I have a hp zd8000, it's a pain in the ass. I'm typing on it right now. The cursor keeps skipping around, an oversensitive mousepad or something.

Stay away from the 64bit laptops. They are slower than the pentium laptops. I have both a 1.7ghz Turion and a 2.8ghz pentium. Both Compaqs and the 2.8ghz if much faster and less prone to sticking.

The Turion will temporarily freeze 5 or 6 times a day and also runs unbelieveably hot.

I was always an AMD fan, all the computers i've built are AMDs. So for laptops, pentiums are better? Should i get an asus laptop then? Which laptop is good for the price range in $1000-2000 range? I will be mainly using it for editing my sites, all business stuff, etc.

Acer was low rated as a product line, but that was a while ago.

I have an IBM which seems to be pretty good: hard to break, fast, long battery life, and great tech support.

Looking at the specs makes it simple, if you're a gamer, get the Acer Ferrari 400 since it has the Radeon x700 graphics processor in it. If it's mainly work, go for either of the others.

THEN again, I haven't been up on the latest laptop processors, so I'm not sure exactly what the Turion Athlon is and how it compares to the standard Athlons.

I like the Acer's. Cheap and works great.
Only issue I have with mine is that the plastic front cover on the screen cracked down by the hinges. But it's only cosmetic and the Acer Ferrari is made out of Carbon Fiber, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have 2 HP laptops. One has given me a few problems. The internal power supply unit has goine out two times, and then the hinges on the screen broke.

Function wise, I have had no problems with either one.

I don't know enough about Acer to recommend it; but, I do like the deal Costco has with their return policy of six months, no questions asked.
