Dialers = Viruses

I heard that some antivirus softwares makes dialers a virus...is that true?

Anyone has an antivirus that warn them for a virus when they download a dialer?

Dialers aren't viruses, and they shouldn't be considered ones either.

You people who think that are uneducated and ignorant.

Also,

None of my anti virus scanners detect dialers as viruses.

Some anti-virus software has detected dialers as viruses from time to time. For example, I think that Sophos' latest blocks GIB, and we had one last year which detected our dialers as viruses. We argued the toss with them, and they backed down.

That's like the pot calling the kettle black. I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you over dialers. Most people agree that dialers are a ripoff. They prey on stupid surfers who don't read the agreement before they use the dialer. By definition, a virus is a malicious program. That sounds like a dialer to me.

How is a dialer a malicious program if the surfer is shown a disclaimer which clearly states the price of the call?

Furthermore, dialers for the U.S. use 900 numbers which are heavily regulated. How is that a virus?

Once again you're just throwing around your uneducated opinion.

It is an opinion, but be careful about using the word "uneducated". Believe me, your opinion is no more valid than mine. We all know what dialers are about. No need to try to validate their tactics.

Now you REALLY ARE uneducated.

I happen to own my own dialer network, so I DO know what I'm talking about.

Real Dialer is the name of our network so naturally realplugin.com is a spin off of our network name.

I'm good friends with Adam and Jimmy from Telcoweb so don't even go there.

It's a plugin dialer, our network name is Real Dialer, thus realplugin is a perfect name.

I know who you are and what you run. Since you run a dialer network, your opinion of dialers isn't valid. Drug dealers and child molesters don't think they're doing anything wrong either.

Why isn't his opinion valid?
And why do you compare something completely legal with something illegal like drug dealers and child molestors? Makes no sense at all.
Dialers are here to stay.
Over the next few years they will probably grow faster than ever because the rules for CC processing is getting more and more strict.
If surfers don't know how to read the disclaimer it really can't be the webmasters fault.
Its like saying it is the car dealers fault when a engine in a car burn out because the car owner did not read in the manual that you needed to put oil in the car also

Due, nice post.

Like stated before dialers are bound to strict regulations in order to protect a surfer (more than any other CC program).
Our dialers clearly states the premium rate per minute and if the surfer still executes the dialer he knows what he is being charged.
This keeps chargebacks on phonebills to a minimum and offers greater profitability, especially with recurring calls.

Due and Marco,

Great posts both of you. Glad some educated folks who did their research finally decided to make some posts here. (That includes you too Dave Knell! )

Nothing pisses me off more than some webmaster calling a dialer malicious when they have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

Marco is correct. Dialers are heavily regulated by both U.S. and U.K regulations.

Visa/Mastercard lets you process for beast, scat, etc? You can forget processing that stuff with a dialer. We never could and never will be able to process that kinda stuff.
