You're exactly right, someone should try to build a computer for that price.Originally posted by Mr. Mojo Risinthe hardware is worth much more than they are selling it for... wait till they figure out how to hack it, though I don't think you will be able to run Windows on it since they went with PowerPC, probably deliberately... But if they can find a way to hack it, it could double as another cheap PC....
3.2 Ghz processor
20-gig hard drive
Top Notch Video Card
Ethernet
Controller
When you look at it that way, that's a damn good deal. The video card alone would be $400-$600.
This system is gonna bring console gaming into the next level with it's new marketplace where you can download games and new levels for the games you have, I know people have been doing it on PC for years, but this is CONSOLE.
I know that people say that the PS3 will be superior in hardware. Well, if they have at LEAST 5 months to prepare their system, it sure better be.
People always blast Sega for having bad systems like the 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast, but you've gotta admit, they've got balls to be the first company out of the gate with a new system.
Sony have always been the assholes that sit back and let the other guy come out first, then they make something a little better shortly after, so they come out on top. Some people may call it smart, which to them, it is, but I think it's also gutless. If you're a great as you think you are, release your system first.Comment

If you buy the $299 without the hard drive, you won't be able to, BUT if you buy the $399 WITH the hard drive, you definately CAN play your old Xbox games. You can also add a hard drive to the cheaper model for another $100Originally posted by EpicJimIf it does not play the old XBOX games that i have about 100 of...then i am not buying one anyway....and i hear it does not....guess it is the PS3...Last edited by Slick; 11-20-2005, 05:43 AM.Comment

PS3 will rule over XBOX360, and I would put my money on it. But the point of the thread isnt that. XBOX is expensive, whatever 300-400, and so will the PS3. THey are not pricing high to make more profit, but to catch up the loss that they invested in new technology. The games will cost even more, as it will cost even more to produce them. So whats the point here? XBOX is expensive? PS3 will be as expensive too! maybe 50$ less or whatever. The games will cost around $60-80 each on any console! It will be very hard for both consoles to make money with this new generation machine. People arent dumb. Parents are going to be the main purchasers for their kid. They wont pay 1000$ more on console and games when their kid already has a XBOX1 that cost them 300$ and spent another 500-1k on games, just to have something with better graphs. XBOX was a first new gen console in microsoft, thats why tons of people bought it. It wont be the same with XBOX2, or even with PS3. Their going to break even or make little profit with these machines, is my bet. The investment costs are HUGE HUGE HUGE for these machines. Not many people are thinking about this. Anyways, as far as I'm concerned, Id buy a PS3 anyday against a XBOX

I don't think anyone here really has any idea as to what Microsoft has planned for the XBox360. By the time the PS3 comes out (they're saying maybe 2007 here in the US now) XBox users will be downloading new games and movies directly to the HDD.
This might give you a little idea...
The major games stories of 2007 and 2008 won?t be about the so-called triple-A titles with mondo development and marketing budgets. The real change that?s brewing as next-generation consoles prepare to invade homes around the world is being introduced much more insidiously. Xbox Live (and as-yet unannounced offerings from Sony and Nintendo) are going to destroy video games retailing as we know it today.
Take a look at the list (below) of publishers that have announced support for the Xbox Live Arcade service: Electronic Arts, Midway Home Entertainment, Capcom, Vivendi Universal Games, Konami, SEGA, Hudson Soft and others. Take a look at the list of games that are being offered. Microsoft plans to make 35 titles available via Xbox Live Arcade by summer 2006. By summer 2007 there could be hundreds of titles. Microsoft is creating demand for broadband delivery of games.
Sure, the games on offer right now are non-threatening casual games, but it?s only a matter of time until gamers are downloading entire triple-A titles and not just demos of them. With more and more retailers moving towards the sale of used games, first- and third-party publishers are going to push the direct-to-consumer channel even harder. Here?s the game plan:
1. Get the technology into living rooms. Sell the console as a regular console, not as a delivery device for Xbox Live Arcade
2. Generate demand and drive habitual use by providing a simple, easy-to-navigate interface, frequent demos for highly anticipated new releases, multimedia content, and low, low prices
3. Offer larger (200+ GB) hard drive options as consumers begin to fill their drives with content
4. Establish consumer trust for your commerce engine through micropayments and other small (low-risk) transactions
5. Flip a switch and offer top-tier games via direct download

You're so very wrong on that one point alone that the rest of your argument is hardly worth the time to read.Originally posted by supermannBut the point of the thread isnt that. A hint - read all the replies above and if you still have problems go and by some PC components to the same spec as the new Xbox.Comment

Your post doesnt make any sense and is contradictory. By building a computer at the price of the XBOX360, it would cost A LOT more than the price of the XBOX360. So by selling the XBOX at such a low price(in their perspective) they are in fact not making profit.Originally posted by TipsyYou're so very wrong on that one point alone that the rest of your argument is hardly worth the time to read.

Where do I start lol, that was a true rant, so I'll rant back. Anywho, you seem to like RPG's; ever play KOTOR for the Xbox?Originally posted by Noirhttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,175860,00.html

Mainly like tons of other articles, they basically say that its just more expensive than you think.
it's all marketing. get the 299 system, you will, in the end end up paying what everone else is. 399. just to get it to play games.
it's also got the same old DVD format.
Remember ths PS2 launch? yeah, it was a 300$ dvd player, when dvd players cost 200 bucks. (shortly after, it was a 200$ dvd player + video game system, really shortly, few months as i recall)
The xbox 360? well its got a hard drive-less unit, a hard drive unit, and apparently a hd-dvd unit later on. gay.
Ps3? blue-ray drive on launch. $299.
Look at the dreamcast, and the xbox360. they are similar, ive seen articles of that failed system and such, compaired to xbox360.
on that note, how many back games on the xbox would i want to play?
halo? a mediocre 3d shooter with a GAMEPAD? or Fable? A short but fun rpg? Their online is tops, ill admit, but their games suck ass.
I'll hold my check for a ps3, and FF12/13, MGS4, GTA4, etc. etc. etc. etc.
If I was a parent, and oddly didn't own a PS2, I would for sure buy one for christmas.
what's better? a 500$ xbox 360, with 1 so-so game?
or a ps2 and a dozen award winning best sellers? sure super snarf man looks graphically good on x360, but man gameplay is gay.
I'd much rather have a GOOD game on the PS2 than a mediocre one on the xbox 360.
but then im a long time gamer, who knows my shit.
not to discount xbox360 will get a good game, eventually. but it looks stupid to me to buy it outright, with 0 good games. Comon, the PS2 has a giant collection of games which are fun as hell. the xbox has very little, and no japanese support.
everyone I know who likes the xbox plays sports games, and isn't much of a gamer. point proven to me.
based on 20 years of studying on systems, marketing, and an avid gamer, who knows people in the industry, Microsoft will have to work hard to get me to buy their system.
Their launch games all look like nothing I want to play. not a good selling point.
Not like im a sellout for sony, if the ps3 sucks and has crappy titles, i wouldn't buy it either, but still. With their japanese backing, and Rockstar, etc etc, im sure they will have a good launch, if they do so in spring next year, if they bypass the heating problem they encountered so far.
Sorry, my .02 c.
I see microsoft launching another dreamcast, and I see sony doing the exact same thing yet again which made the ps2 such a success.
Xbox people don't like to admit they outsell the gamecube be very little, and in the negatives in Japan by a huge margin.

You seem to be a PS3 fanboy, which is nothing wrong, but your post went from why you shouldn't buy an Xbox to why you should go with a PS3.
The Xbox is more powerful than any of the next gen systems.
The Xbox will eventually overtake Sony as video game king, and Sony can't do anything about it. Bill Gates just has too much money to lose.#27024067Comment

It does if you get the hard drive via software emulation. You need the hard drive for it to work though.Originally posted by EpicJimIf it does not play the old XBOX games that i have about 100 of...then i am not buying one anyway....and i hear it does not....guess it is the PS3...Comment

Don't buy Xbox. Buy Fleshlight.SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.Comment

To me, PCs are unbeatable when it comes to first person shooters, online RPGs, or real time strategy, BUT when it comes to sports games like Madden, the feeling on PC just isn't there.Originally posted by Morganafter playing pc games online, i dont know how anyone could sit and use a console to play games..Comment

At least i'll be able to get an X-Box 360, then by the time the PS3 does come out, decide if i'm happy enough with the 360 or decide to get a PS3 aswell.
I don't know how anyone can say either console will actually suck, both will be great, and a vast improvement on what we have just now...Comment
