Muhammad Ali Losing Battle With Parkinson

Source

Boxing legend losing battle with Parkinson's

According to a report in the London Evening Standard, Muhammad Ali is losing his two-decade long battle with Parkinson's disease and may only have "months to live."
A close family friend told the newspaper: "His condition has worsened. At this point, he may only have months to live."
But Ali's marketing agent, Harlan Werner, denied the report, telling BBC Sport, "Muhammad is fine and he has numerous appearances lined up.

"He had surgery on his back and was in therapy for that, but that had nothing to do with Parkinson's. He is fine."

While there seems to be some dispute over Ali's long-term health, there is little doubt that the Parkinson's disease is taking its toll.

Ali's manager, Howard Bingham, said: "(His daughter) Laila feels she is losing him."

Laila Ali essentially said as much last week in a story printed in the Los Angeles Times.

"I feel like the disease is progressing. Different things start happening as you get older. I have noticed a change in him, something that goes along with Parkinson's.

"It's painful for me because I would love to sit down and talk to my dad about the way he used to be when he was my age, when he was in his prime, because we are so much alike. I can't really do that. I can't share a lot of things with him."

The three-time heavyweight champion was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1985, four years after he retired from boxing. The 63-year-old is currently undergoing therapy following treatment for neck and back problems.

It will be a sad day when he goes, but the guy looks like he is suffering. Maybe it's his time? Only God can decide

He truly was "The Greatest"

I can just imagine him saying, "I've got no quarrel with Saddam Hussain."

Its not just the Parkinsons. There are a lot of factors from his boxing days involved.

BUt I can say that the sports world will need to take a day off to remember that man the day that he dies.

There will never be another Ali! "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!" The fights are part of history... The "Rumble in the Jungle" - the "Thrilla in Manilla" - the "Fight of the Century" with Frazier. I hope it all works out for you Ali and that you are at peace with the World.

I saw it closed circuit in Niagara Falls, NY. Still remember the crowd's displeasure with the rope-a-dope... until Forman hit the canvass.

I often pull out my DVD "When We Were Kings"

stop sucking the guys cock for christs sake...

i don't have THAT much respect for him, he was a good fighter n' all. .but he was also a trash talking asshole... particularly in reference to frazier.. you can call it marketing / gaining a psychological edge all ya want, i still find it a negative quality.

and if you were to take tyson in his prime and pin him up against ali in his prime.. tyson would probably kick the shit outta him.

It's sad to see Ali going through such a thing as Parkinson's.

My step-grandfather went through that torture, and a long-term friend/business associate of mine is going through the late stages now. There's not a lot that they can do, the few medications they have, tend to not work for the long term as the body becomes immune to them. In the late stages there are a few brain surgeries that can be done, but they are experimental and outlawed in the U.S. The research in the states is not progressing due to the religous right and they're continued stance angainst stem-cell use and limitations.

As the years go by the physical body basically slips into a coma, unable to physically control and function, while the mind and mental being is still there but unable to react.

Well, I just hope the news aint true at all. Even what he's undergoing right now aint primarily related to parkinsons, his present health condition brought about by his age maybe has something to do with it.

You should do some research. Boxing has absolutely nothing to do with Parkinson's desease. Boxing can't cause it and it can not trigger it at all.

But it is nice to remember his achievemenments. He is one of the Greatest of all times ....

Why do people feel the need to criticize anyone and everyone? I find it so sad. Here is a legendary fighter on the brink of death, and you have to talk shit about him. And you have the audacity to comment on qualities of HIS that YOU find negative?!?

It will truly be a sad day in and out of Boxing when he goes... My thoughts and prayers to him and his family...
