How many people on here have OCD or are with someone with it?

I do not understand OCD because I don't have it. While I like to be fairly tidy, I'm not obsessed with it. I can stand to have white socks and black socks In the same drawer. I can stand to have a pretty clean house but to have a few things awry. I don't freak out if there is a little dust on something

Anyway, I dated a guy one time that sort of had it. It drove me absolutely nuts. It was constant worrying and cleaning and freaking out and getting absolutely red faced if even the slightest thing was going wrong. That relationship went sour b/c I couldn't deal with it.

For those who have OCD, I know it's no picnic judging from my previous encounter, how do you deal with it? Do you take medications/go to therapy? And for those who are in a relationship or have someone close to them like a family member or a good friend with OCD, how does that affect your relationships? And how do you deal with it?

I'm just curious. It seems like something impossible to deal with unless you are both OCD.

OMG this is funny. Are you afraid to leave your house unlocked? I doubt that the one time you leave it unlocked, it will get robbed. Please get pills for OCD. you seem to be near a heart attack lol.

To those who have had it, how quickly did you stop doing things once you started taking meds?

OCD is obsessive-compulsive disorder. I'm mildly OCD (diagnosed) with a tendancy to pick at things or correct things I see that are incorrect. I take grammar/spelling nazi to a whole new level on occasion.

It's hard to deal with effectively, but medications do help. I love my med cocktail - I function very well with it.

Yes I was thinking about it. I can't be around people with OCD, too much drama LOL. Sort of reminds me of that movie "Matchstick Men" where Nick Cage has it. No one could be around him.

I still do them. The medications don't completely stop someone from it, but it makes it very much easier to get a grip in a quick fashion. I won't sit there and pick for hours anymore, it's more like a minute or less before I catch myself.

Took me about two weeks to get in the habit of catching myself after I started with the meds, but therapy helps too.

No offense to you Tala..I can handle it if they are on meds. But I think the guy I was with the one time that had it had a very extreme case.

Oh, no offense taken. Every OCD is different, and people will have different reactions to the meds, and will be on different meds. (FYI - prozac seems to make symptoms of OCD worse, so lots of times it's avoided altogether)

My cocktail is good for me. Like I said, I have a very mild case.

My wife has said a few times she thinks I'm OCD...dunno if I agree with her. At times I can be, I guess. But not to extremes.

I had an extreme case of OCD a few years ago. It is very had to live with someone that has OCD and it is very hard for someone with OCD to live with anyone. I was on medication for a few years. I finally stop taking medication because my OCD has become much less intense.

although I have not consulted a specialist, I think I have an OCD when it comes to order. I want my clothes to be arranged in order so I get to wear them all in different days. they are all properly hanged in my closet. the fresh shirt goes on the left side and I wear the one hanged in the extreme right side.

Are you either seriously suffering from it or dysfunctional in daily life? That's one of the criteria of a disorder.
