No....when seperate but equal was struck down by the Supreme Court they had no choice but to stay there......Since seperate but equal was no longer valid....all the white people took their good books, and good teachers, good business' and moved out of the inner city. leaving all of the black people behind...with poor education and jobs.

wrote a 50 page paper in college on how Seperate but Equal was actually a good thing. Got an A+ and a request to have it published....fearing the backlash i might recieve from something like this i declined.

I agree that separate but equal is part of it definitely, but by no means is it the base reason.

Thanks when i told my professor what I was planning on doing his head nearly spinned. But I managed to pull it off. Seperate but Equal pushed all of the money and resources out of the inner city. A compromise halfway would have been better for the Supreme Court to rule...but they didn't. Life goes on.

All answers I can attempt to provide.

You have to understand that the U.S. of today was alot different from the U.S. of back then. There was really no "suburbs" per se. Everything was seperated...restaurants, schools etc. Communities within the city were seperated by color.......heavily populated black areas and white areas.

At that time there were no blacks in position of power. "Good Jobs" that people made "real money" with were hardly ever given to black people. White people had all the money. They are the one who drove the economy. The law of seperate but equal regulated schools and public faciilities. When seperate but equal was struck down....white people (Money) all moved OUTWARD away from the INNER city....taking the money, businesses and school funds with them. Black people did not have the money (that comes from good jobs) to do this. therefore they remained in the INNER city. Whats an economy with no money? Whats a city with little to no economy...a Ghetto.

OH and the gangster rap...women, gold chains, money.....all appealing things to a disenfranchised society. Ever hear Rock music that just makes you want to drive faster and faster? Kind of the same thing...

I'm 1/4 Mexican, 3/4 British and white in appearance. I live in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood. I am not a "pot" and I'm not calling anyone "black", just engaging ina discussion about race which is hard to do without upsetting people and getting labelled.
