    A Question regarding 2257

    Hi everyone,

This is a general question going out to anyone who cares to reply.

What can you do about a website that is listing YOU as 2257/Custodian of records, when you have nothing at all to do with that site?

We have found a couple of websites recently that have copied our business model and text word-for-word that they even copy/pasted our 2257 page without even bothering to replace our company name and address with their own.

Yes of course we can threaten them with a lawsuit, but I think there is an even bigger issue here. Anyone care to comment?

    Hey Mark,

Have you called them directly and inquired? That might be what I'd do.

If they copied your business model, they probably don't know what they're doing. It could also be an oversight, or they figured you'd never find out and don't think accurate COR information is important.

Call them up, be polite and let them know that you WANT to keep the lawyers out of it. Ask them if they know what a COR is. Then tell them that just by having you up there, they're subjecting you to possible unnecessary visits from the RCMP, and you must INSIST that they take it down by the end of the day, or YOU'LL call the RCMP and inform them that THEIR COR isn't correct, and THEY can expect that visit sooner rather than later from the authorities.

    Just a thought.

edit-if they become belligerent at any point though, you'll probably have no choice but to use your lawyer.
