Mercedes Benz Diesel SL 400 CDI

This thing is a bi-turbo V8 Diesel.

I don't think I've thought we'd see a Diesel engine in a sports car, much less an SL.

Interesting.

diesel actually fits a sports car better than petrol for example BMW 330D is not far away from M3...but much cheaper

I'm not hating on Diesel. I love Mercedes Benz and I've even owned a Diesel Mercedes in the past and I can say that Mercedes Benz does Diesel better than any other manufacturer, I'd love to see what the Torque in one of these is like.

That thing was sick for sure.

The price was up there though, VW has problems with selling cars much over $35-$40k. It contradicts the precepts on which VW became famous.

Hence the Phaeton which will be gone from the US market after this year.

yeah the translation of "Volkswagen" is "a peoples car" . That name does not go well with large pricetags it seems. In Holland however Volkswagen is an expensive brand. The vag (volkswagen audi group) therefor took over Skoda and Seat a while ago and turned them into equal quality products. They all have the same engines, durability, safetyfeatures etc. the vw's and audi's have, but with way lower pricetags.

I would never go back to gas. Diesel is the only way to go. I'm hooked on the 48MPG and the amazing torque.
