Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

The wife insisted we have a 'family day' earlier with the kids...so she rented Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on DVD.

There's a few hours I'll never get back again.

Normally I enjoy most Johnny Depp movies - but I thought this time his character was just too eerily close to being a cross between Michael Jackson and PeeWee Herman.

Although I did chuckle when he blurted out, "Don't go touching that squirrel's nuts."

I'm with you. I was disappointed when I saw it in the theater.

I must admit, though...it was kinda' cool that Burton cast Christopher Lee as Depp's father. Reminiscent of him using Vincent Price as his father/creator in Edward Scissorhands.

And his nod to the late Stanley Kubrick was a nice touch, too.

I was pretty excited to see it, then afterwards I felt like I just wasted 2 hours of my life and 18 bucks. it was a disappointment.

The new Charly and the Chocolate Factory was seriously disturbing! Was this movie even made for kids? I couldn't believe my eyes..

Christopher Lee is definately great to watch. I haven't seen him in this film yet, but I finally watched the new Star Wars the other day and Christopher Lee seemed like the only person on screen that knew what he was doing.

Even Samuel Jackson couldn't pull off a decent performance with the terrible job George Lucas did on that script.

Well, I agree with you on that. Besides, somehow he's been typecasted with those types of roles already.

I really liked the first movie. This one, I have not seen yet. And with some of the negative feed back, I am not sure that I will.

We did that same thing, watched Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with the kids.

3 year old said it was "FREAKY"

Older kid said it was "FUNNY"

My husband said he liked it. I just said "I agree with the 3 year old".

I didn't mind Depp, but the little muslim oompa loompa dude just was horrible casting.

What in the fuck were they thinking. He looked like Bin Ladens mini-me.

We...me, the 18 year old, and the 9 year old all liked it.

Then again, a 3 hour documentary called "Johnny Sleeping" would get my vote. ;)

I only made it like 30 minutes into it and turned it off. Pretty uninspired imho. But great art direction as always from TB.

i really enjoyed charlie and the chocolate factory.
it was great.
i think the biggest problem is that people see it assuming they're going to see a replica of the first movie with different actors. This is Tim Burton people....he wouldn't do a movie like that.
if you watch it with an open mind its great.
