Online scamming is Nigeria's third-largest source of revenues

    http://service.spiegel.de/cache/inte...384317,00.html

"The victims live in the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, France and Britain. In the past year, $160 million were sent to Nigeria from the United States and Great Britain alone. Some experts even believe that revenues from these scams are Nigeria's third-largest source of hard currency, after oil and cocoa."

I read somewhere that nigeria actually provides classroom training of scams for the schoolchildren.

                        hahaha,

This guy, "Alex White" ([email protected]) tried to buy my laptop and asked me to send it to Nigeria and he will pay via Western Union/BidPay

Me, having informed about the Nigeria scam, I told him to send the money via a different payment system, Xoom.

                        And so he did

He used these address to pay
                        [email protected]

                        Here are the transactions
                        https://www.xoom.com/trackxfer?&invoice=XPH7420904629
                        https://www.xoom.com/trackxfer?&invoice=XPH7125905833
                        https://www.xoom.com/trackxfer?&invoice=XPH5738602679

I told him that I will only send the item ONCE I get the cash since I will be using the additional shipping to send the item.

He tried to send the payment using eCheck and Credit Card but he refunds it after less than 3 hours processing the payment. He tried to send money 3 times.

Then he tells me something is wrong with Xoom and that we should try Western Union instead. I am getting tired of his excuses already.

Luckily, somebody local already bought it in the same day he cancelled his third transaction.

Those are the most persistent MF's on the planet. I STILL get emails at least 3 times a week after years of them sending them to my email addy. I can't believe people don't research stuff like this online before they send money. OR that they haven't heard about it.

If you read the article, it is understandable how the woman mentioned fell for it. She got an actual letter, addressed to her husband who had died a few years earlier, asking why he hadn't contacted them for such a long time about "his investment".

In Nigeria, they paid for her hotel, and she was first taken to the office of the guy pretending to be a lawyer, then to a building seemingly belonging to the National Bank.

I don't agree with completely pulling the plug on them, but I think individual ISP's need to consider blocking communications with them. If that's even possible.

Interesting find David. I would never have thought it thrived that much.

                                                Amazing.
You're welcome Cory. After the amazing party pictures of pouring liquids over people's heads, I thought it was my turn to contribute to this board!
