our constitution has more to do with it than soldiers so stop walking around believing that because you put on a uniform, you somehow responsible for protecting america as a whole and all of our freedoms, its simpoly not true.

that pride is marketed to you so you join, but it has nothing to do with what you are actually doing.

soldiers and the military do not protect nor do they grant any freedoms, nor do they protect them. if anything, the military goes against our freedoms especially in times of a draft.

Yes, our constitution is what grants and protects our freedoms. But without a military who would protect that constitution? We would still be under British rule if we didn't fight for our independance. If it weren't for our strong military we wouldn't have our own constitution, we would be living under some other country's rule. We would be like France during WWII and we would all be speaking German right now.

i see right through your agenda here, and i am not the biggest fan of this country at this point in time, but your being ignorant. military people aren't stupid. we know that when the shit hits the fan for whatever reason, its us that will be putting our ass on the line to take care of biz. i didn't serve out of patriotism. i served to grow up, to do something for myself. i served to be made into a man and someone that can stand on their own two feet. i served because i wanted a college education which i got.

so the next time you go to sleep i am sure that no one wants to invade the u.s. from any point of entry land, sea, or air because there is a piece of paper in a protected box in a national monument. that piece of paper isn't going to blast your ass out of the air, sea, or land that you decided to fuck with.

Without the military there wouldn't be a US Constitution, because the next country would invade and takeover the government...

I just don't like how many people like to put the US military on a high pedestal and try to make a politics out of them... I spent 5 years in the US Army and the people is no different then anyone else.

In Case you haven't noticed though, your freedoms aren't protected though. They are under assault. All that needs to be done is for a few assholes to amend the constitution, and Bam! Gone! The new Supreme court justices that are being appointed are ones who do NOT, believe in individual Privacy, and do not feel that the constitution is a static thing that should be left alone. Does anybody watch the news? America is a great place to live. So Far.... I respect the militarty and the guys and gals who serve. But we on a bad trend with individual rights. well to be fair, i never said the military does not "protect america" in some way.

My thoughts on starting this thread were to people who walk around believing they actually give me my rights. And without them (soldiers) i would have none. Sorry, but fighting in Okinawa has NOTHING to do with my freedoms here in america.

We have had bases in Okinawa for a very long time. I have a cousin who is not even 20 being shipped there in less than 2 months.

He actually thinks he is doing "something for our country"

You should brush up on your history a little bit.

This country never had a "strong military" until WWI.

It managed to not only gain it's independance from Britain but survive and thrive for over 140 years without a significant military force.

Whether this country can continue to live up to the traditions and greatness that it saw during those formative years has yet to be determined. Militaries are expensive and drain productive resources from the populace that employs them. They can't be kept going at full steam continuously and have a country prosper as well.

You don't need to support a large military to honor those who have served
