omg I just laughed out loud, I still tell this joke to people everyday, and it's great success!

Too bad I had to quit my scientist job in '76 due to a hernia...

haha nylz, you're such a bad liar... you know you retired in '76 because franklin corrected you when you said

"In gene regulatory systems in which proteins bind to multiple sites on a DNA molecule, the characterization of chemical mechanisms and single-step reaction rates is difficult because many chemical species may exist simultaneously in a molecular ensemble. This problem was circumvented by detecting DNA looping by the lactose repressor protein of Escherichia coli in single DNA molecules."

when it wasn't actually proven that it had anything to do with the lactose repressor protein of Escherichia coli in single DNA molecules...

Ack... please don't tell everybody that! Please only mention the good things I did, like the time I developed an in silico method of selection of human full-length cDNAs encoding secretion or membrane proteins from oligo-capped cDNA libraries.

or when you found out that in a bacterial cell, restriction endonucleases (often referred to as restriction enzymes) act as a kind of immune system, protecting the cell from the invasion of foreign DNA, as would occur when a virus attempted to infect a bacterial cell.

What about that time you examined the total protein expression pattern of the nodule bacteria, as a prelude to using functional proteomics towards understanding the process of symbiotic nitrogen fixation between the legume soybean and the soil bacteria Bradyrhizobium japonicum. A partial proteome map was constructed by separating the total bacteroid proteins using high-resolution 2-DE. Of the several hundred protein spots analyzed using PMF, 180 spots were tentatively identified by searching the available database for B. japonicum. The data showed that the bacteroid expressed a dominant and elaborate protein network for nitrogen and carbon metabolism, which is closely dependent on the plant supplied metabolites, and seems aptly supported by a selective group of bacteroid transporter proteins.

This is the single most humorous thread that I've read this morning. Top notch.

So this is why you decided to continue and expand the IML-2 crystallisation studies on thermophilic aspartyl-tRNA synthetase and to crystallise the plant sweetening protein, thaumatin. While both proteins are biochemically stable and are purified easily, they also have significant structural and behavioural differences; therefore, they make interesting subjects for comparative crystallography studies. In addition, thaumatin tastes extremely sweet when consumed by humans. Since it appears to be non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and low in calories, it may be a strong substitute for common table sugar. It all makes sense now.

sonofsam is right... but more research needs to be done about e-coli and multi dna molecules...

... but i highly doubt that traumatin will ever replace table sugar.
