I like neither. I use a dishnetwork PVR and dig it. Replaytv is kinda crappy because of how it manages shows but there are lots of advantages if you use more than one (can watch shows across multiple units) and you can download shows to your pc (in a fucked up mpeg format)
Tivo is just kinda freaky. its cool but has it's own issues and the company is sorta going down the tubes. If you have cash, get a medium range Media Center PC. You have 100% control over your media and can watch on portable devices and such. If your cable / satellite company offers a PVR it's probably worth while. |

I have directv tivo and love it. The only other thing I have experience with is dish networks pvr and I don't like it.

I wish my DirecTV HD receiver was also TIVO. Didn't feel like spending 1 grand on a fucking receiver when I got it though.

I've got 3 Replay Tv's and really enjoy them. I can send shows to each one via ethernet and download shows off the web via a replay tv group. I prefer the older models that had the commercial advance feature that automatically deleted out the commercials.

We can get something called Hauppage here in the UK - the PVR is pretty good.
Im sure you can get something similar in the US. All the mpeg2 encoding is done on the card so there is zero degredation on your PC. They have analogue, freeviewdigital and satallite systems. have a look at http://www.hauppage.co.uk and look for a US version. edit: lol - guess what? it is http://www.hauppauge.com |
