Forgetting what political peruasion blah.... looking at Fox reminds me of sitting in a basement for months watching the product of almost every propaganda machine during the 20th century.

The mechanisms don't change, - the images are in color, copy writing is nothing new, assertions of being on the righteous side remain the same - and all appeal to mass fears and hopes and working towards a "learned" consensus in the masses.

Fox is probably *the* news channel in the Western World that can be used as a training sample (tho a poor one) for media people into how propaganda works and what buttons to press to manipulate folks.

What a joke. Fox News is biased no doubt, but so is every other news channel. Go to Europe and see how the media there has steadily moved towards neo-communist propaganda. Look how many immigrants are entering European countries annually for example, and ask yourself why is this going unquestioned even when a very very large % of people are absolutely against it. In many European countries at election time the media completely ignores right-wing parties openly, and states that they will not give any publicity to them.

Over the past 50 years media stations in the West have managed to turn Western nations from conservative, anti-immigration nations into 'multi-cultural', socialist 'paradises'. They have been very very successful at pushing their agenda. When you see a Chinese man of French citizenship being referred to as being as French as anyone else (whether you believe that or not) ask yourself how did we arrive to this point, and maybe than you will be able to realise how much the left-wing media has managed to changed Western society in such a short time.

(and no I am not a conservative)

Sheesh... OK, if you think so!

Sure.. you can criticise almost every word that comes out from.. eg any reporter on the ground, and there "may" be biase in his report. It's not really about biase... more about obviously planned propaganda.

It's easy to do an armchair critique of the media in general terms, - the majority of editors and reporters are well-aware and try to do the best job they can with "content" - tho they may have, eg political leanings one way or other.

Oddly.. CNN, for what it is (and sure it gets the flag flying on the set background on occasion), but there are also some reasonable reporting staff employed by them and they manage to get their sound bites out in a near-as-damn balanced way in the time alloted. It's a commercial news org that is struggling to deliver news fewer viewing heads watch - what ya expect between the "feature program" of Viagra and home loan ads?

There is a massive void between biase, - intended or otherwise, and propaganda.

The only real difference is Fox News goes for the reactionary vote, so that is why you notice their bias so much. On the other hand left-wing progressive channels do exactly that, attempt to 'progress' society (which is harder to achieve) by displaying their propoganda (i.e. using words that are beneficial to them, reporting stories that suit their interests, etc) just as fox news does.

Blocked! The only time I unblock it is right before I go visit my mom and dad, so I know the "reason" we're in Iraq this month. Sure enough, they use the same exact wording as Fox news does. 1st it was "WMDs", then "the liberation of Iraqis", then without fail it became "Fighting terrorists on their 'own soil' rather then ours". Step, one, two, three, four....

Actually, the difference is that the bias is organized and coordinated strategically by the executives. We're not just talking about a general bias on the part of some of the talking heads. We're talking about a controlled bias. There's a massive difference.

I seriously believe that it's the goal of Fox News to make its viewers believe that the end of the world is imminent if they dare to stop watching. They love those FOX NEWS ALERTS! BREAKING NEWS!!! OMG!! WHATS GOING ON?!?! AM I GOING TO DIE?!? LINDSAY LOHAN CHANGED HER HAIR COLOR?!? HOLY FUCK, THAT'S NEWSWORTHY!

And you think the exec's of major TV stations throughout the Western World haven't openly organised their organisation to push an agenda? Do you know the kind of effort it took to bring down the 'White Australia Policy' for example? You are a fool if you think such things aren't a result of organised effort by executives of more liberal news publications. The whole change in Western society over the past 60-70 years begun in Universities and the Media, if you think it was an unorganised effort you are really naive.

That's a good thing. If you only listened to programming you agree with you would become too complacent in your opinions. Listening to those on "the other side(s)" keeps you thinking (and hopefully growing).

I check out all the news channels and know "the truth" lies slightly in the middle of all of them I'm trying to get my big dish fixed that was messed up during Katrina so I can get back to all the feeds and international news it brings.

I used to watch Bob Enyart who opened his show every night declaring that he is "America's most popular self-proclaimed right-wing religious fanatic, homophobic, anti-choice talk-show host" until it went off satellite. He now does an online radio show but I haven't checked it out that much. The real fun of his show was watching the frustration in his face when dealing with an informed caller, of which I was a couple of times.

guess that is why right-wing parties are growing in strength (and even have a decent amount of power) in places such as Austria, France, Belgium, etc. In any event though I think the European right-wing is much more sensible than the American Christian-right. Some of the parties are fairly far right, but much of their politics has justification.

Yah, MSNBC's 9-midnight lineup is full of pinko commies like Rita Crosby, Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson. You can't get much more liberal than that.

FOX News really sucks. Biased for sure. They are big supporters of Bush Administration and just about anything from another point of view is squashed or made to look inferior. And Hannity is such a DICK. The worst hosts on TV as well.

CNN is better but not much.

The BEST news is the one people watch the least. Jim Lehrer News Hour on PBS. Unbiased as can be in this day and age. News that matters, not another Britney Spears sighting or Prince Charles farted story.

CNN is boring compared to Fox News since Fox puts a lot of 'moral urgency' and flavor into their reporting. It's basically news but aimed at punching emotional buttons. I don't think it speaks to any right wing political agenda per se (outside the conservative pundit shows/forums on Fox News and the fact that Roger Ailes was a Republican operative for a long time) but more towards Rupert Murdoch's tried and true method of generating $$$ out of news--sensationalist/emotionalist style of reporting/story selection.

I couldn't live without these shows. Been watching all of them since the first episodes. The Daily Show during the Olympics in Atlanta in 96, Real Time since 03(and Politically Incorrect in 94 on Comedy Central) and The Colbert Report since a few weeks back.
