How to fix error 1335, data1.cab required ?

I just bought a new XPS dell laptop but I cant install any game on it. I always get the error 1335 data1.cam required in the middle of the installation. Anyone ever had this problem and knows how to fix it?

are you installing from a cd? might be a problem with the drive if multiple cds are having this problem. Here's the error straight from MSDN:

1335 The cabinet file '[2]' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

I'd also empty your temp folder (Start - Run - %TEMP%) and make sure you have enough free space as the install will be cached on the harddrive to run.

No actually its not even installing from the CDROM. And there are 95 gigs of free space.

I'm assuming it's talking about data1.cab and not data1.cam?
if the file is from a reliable source, disable any virus scanning software and try then.

Yes I was refering to data1.cab actually. I dont have any virus scanning installed. Actually, nothing has been installed on this machine except windows xp professional and the device drivers.

data1.cab is a compressed file containing files for the install. when you run the install, these files are extracted. The error you're getting is usually a corrupted file, or possibly corrupted engine. try contacting a company that made one of the games. also try to narrow down which installations are causing the trouble. different software uses different installation engines and it might be something specific to one engine.
