theWatsonian 03-12-2002 02:48 PM

I hate SUVs. I can't see over them in my Toyota Tercel.

I hate SUV's every fuckin mofo and soccer mom in seattle has one and I can't fucking stand them.

No offense lenny, that's a beautiful car... I like your others better.... but my personal thing on SUV's is that i've been run out of my lanes by so many dipshits driving them here that they drive me nuts!

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT:

1.) SUV'S ARE NOT ANY BETTER IN ACCIDENTS

2.) THEY DONT' HANDLE FOR SHIT IN RAIN OR SNOW

3.) THEY ROLL SUPER EASY

honestly? (and brettJ can confirm this) ... every time I see a wrecked SUV a cry out "I hope the fuckin owner died!!"

sorry, I just can't stand them.

Disclaimier: this thread is in no way meant to be an assault on lensman, he's cool in my book, I just don't like SUV's. I don't wish death upon lensman any more than on my own mom ... so please don't ban my ass :thumbsup

TaDoW 03-12-2002 03:23 PM

yes... there are issues that run deeper ... has to do with my big brother shoving a toy SUV up my ass when I was a kid... long story on that .. involving a joystick, olive oil, several feet of barbed wire, and 3 geese.:eek7

SleazyDream 03-12-2002 03:25 PM

being tippy depends on the SUV, hummers arn't noted for that, only preppy mobiles.

well, yeah .. but a hummer isn't exactly an SUV ... it's more of a penis with wheels :-D

:thumbsup

although .. it should be noted that ... no SUV can outhandle probably even the worst sedan...

RT- 03-12-2002 03:49 PM

Haven't you folks in your Accords and Camrys heard?

People who drive SUV's operate under the "Big Car Rule".

It's not that were bad drivers, If smaller in size than our SUV, you are subject to "Big Car Rule". We will push our way into lanes, cut you off, and block your view. In an accident.. I will roll through your Toyota like it was a bug on our windshield.

Know the rule. Understand the rule. Head our warning or, in my case, I will stamp GMC into your ass like a cattle brand.

Best Regards

actually, it is true..

they are not held up to the same crash accountability as pick-ups ... but rather just as minivans.

in FACT .. they don't even have standards for rollover tests like pickups and cars do they somehow evaded that. think about that the next time you're rolling over at 40 mph. Granted laws of inertia still come into play, but in an SUV/SUV collision, you're pretty much fucked.

as for rain and snow. sorry. it is true. suv's are REAR WHEEL DRIVE. and usually without traction control. which makes them no better than a pickup with sand in them.

their 4 wheel drive is paltry and pathetic. true 4 wheel drive in SUVs exists only on the Land Rover Defender, and the old 4-runners (even the new ones have a dumbed-down version for gas efficiency). So bad is it, that road and track took a bunch of SUVs, dropped them in 8 inches of soft sand, and most of the "automatic" 4 wheel drives didn't even kick in,and those that had manual 4 wheel drive just dug themselves in further because the front wheel drive only has one working wheel hope this helps for the next time you hit a patch of black ice .. happy sailing :-)

for rain and snow .. front wheel drive with traction control is the way to go, or some systems such as 4-motion and quattro are great, BECAUSE they depend FIRST on front wheel drive.

TaDoW 03-12-2002 04:48 PM

Actually .. .the Jeep Cherokee's 4 wheel drive seems to work well too I've heard .. so add that to the list =)

hmm.. and I can't really put the RR defender in that argument, because it's not quite an SUV, but I haven't heard happy things about other RR's lately

TaDoW 03-12-2002 04:54 PM

don't get me wrong.. rear wheel drive is the way to go on sports cars :)

I love my GTI, but it still doesn't have the snap of a rear wheel .. (course.. don't know how the fuck I'm going to get the M3 up to the mountain in December... that'll be another long list of exciting threads)

richard123 03-12-2002 05:04 PM

Why settle for less? Snow? Ice? Too many limitations with 4WD, really. Great in peak hour traffic too!

Kimmykim 03-13-2002 02:26 PM

Sorry Tadow you aren't going to convince me, basically because I've driven both in all kinds of conditions -- even tho Elvis thinks I've always lived in Arizona ;)

I've driven in over a foot of snow in both an SUV and a truck and they go quite well. Both vehicles had (I should say have, the truck is in my driveway right now, tho I can't find the key lol) a 3.73 rear end with limited slip so neither of them actually needed 4wd to move either... My ex also had a true rwd truck so I can make the comparison. I've never had a problem with all 4 wheels kicking in on 4wd either.

As to the rollover, well the truck sticks to the road like glue, the only thing about the Expeditions is that when you go to the 17" wheels, you do put yourself higher up in the air and may indeed be more likely to roll or have issues if you get caught in a crosswind (that's an Arizona thing Elvis ;P )...

Now moving on to the accident factor. Show me a car that's going to stand up to a big vehicle... there aren't many, some Mercs maybe a Volvo, but not much more. A couple of years ago I had a wreck (same truck too) and I've seen the damage to both vehicles from it. Give me the truck or the SUV any day.

Of course my opinions are specifically about big vehicles -- Expedition, Tahoe, Suburban, full size trucks, etc. Looking at some of the smaller SUV models, even I do wonder if they are very safe...

DrGuile 03-13-2002 02:37 PM

I agree with TaDow (mostly)... People with SUVs are asshole who think they drive a tank...

I KNOW you would plow through my Jetta with you RR or what not, its not reason to cut me off or to talk on your cell phone while looking at the pretty colors around you...

I dont want to die because you need to feel superior...

On the topic of cars, I would sell my soul for a porsche 911 GT2... now that's style :)

Is that the brand new one? They had one of those at the dealership I got mine from... nice ride, but a lot of fucking money :)

Lensman 03-13-2002 02:48 PM

"SUVs are not safer than cars"

The G500 weighs 5900 lbs. empty, there aren't many passenger vehicles that can stand up to that.

Marc De 03-13-2002 03:03 PM

I'm usually a lurker on the boards here but car topics will usually get me to post :)

I was thinking of getting a new G 500 Lens, how are you liking yours? Its a unique looking SUV and I've sat in one and the interior is very plush! Very similar to my AMG ML 55. Haven't drove one yet...

I registered the domain marcscars.com to display my car collection. Right now I have:

? 2002 ML 55
? 2001 BMW X5 4.4i
? 2002 Cadillac Escalade
? 2002 BMW M5
? 2001 BMW Z8
? 2001 Mercedes S 500
? 1967 Shelby GT 500
? 2002 Mercedes C 32 (Vegas Car)
? 2002 Mercedes CLK 430 (Vegas Car)

If I have one fetish its CARS! :) Obviously...

Lensman 03-13-2002 03:12 PM

Marc, I also have a 2002 ML500, the G500 is totally different. Even the navigation system is totally different.

X37375787 03-13-2002 03:15 PM

Marc, I beg you on my dirty knees - POST PICTURES OF THE M5 !!!!

Pleeeease :waaaaahh

jreaka 03-13-2002 03:18 PM

I agree with everything you have just said ... and I sold my soul a long time ago .. the porsche still isn't here..

Marc De 03-13-2002 03:22 PM

Lens - The biggest problem I have is deciding which car to get rid of and getting past Heather. She can't STAND the way it looks, but I think its classy hehe

If you had to choose, the G or the M? Which would it be...

Seaz 03-13-2002 03:22 PM

Its simple the CADILAC ESCALADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aint nothing gonna kick its ass

As I said before. Newton's second law STILL applies.

as for cars who will stand up to the impact? why the fuck you think I'm buying a BMW ... LIke I said too many dipshit socccer moms.

and check your records volvo is no longer the safest on the road. VW and BMW have surpassed them. :-)

and lastly I would like to state that if you spend $40k, $50k, or $70k on an SUV you had better fuck that thing up just as hard as if you buy a 1978 Chevy Blazer .. because that's what they are meant for .. to be fucked up. Personally, I don't think you'll ever find me trashing a $50k vehicle intentionally, unless I buy a hummer .. then i plan on trashing the shit out of that.

okay, one last thing:

YOU ARE NOT COMPACT CARS SO STOP PARKING IN THOSE SPOTS!!!
