The way we in the US respond after a hurricane is flawed!

Time after time it never goes right. States are unable to respond efficiently or are run by complete morons. Hurricane responses need to be a military operation by air, land and sea. The laws that prohibit our military from taking over need to be amended in times like these. I would also say that General Honore should head these military activities because when he is around words become actions. Too many people are just all talk and it is inexcusable and I'm tired of seeing people suffer that do not need to. It is just not right.

It's hard to understand why it turns into such a clusterfuck every time; even if they don't happen on a regular basis, the needs and the problems which arise are well-known; Shelter, clean water, food and power.

There must be a way to keep these ready and available for delivery anywhere, at any time.

All they take control of is the affected area. It worked in New Orleans after the current response method miserably failed. The military brought order to New Orleans as well as water and food. If I lived in SOFLA right now I'd be thrilled to see General Honore ride into town with a convoy of troups and supplies.

YOU NEVER WANT THE MILLITARY to take over. That is a MAJOR mistake.

One of the problems that the people in the positions to do something to help right away are out to linch for 3 hours, and that comes first. they get paid 200 300k a year, and dont do a thing.

I live in Miami. I have no power, no water pressure, no ice, no gas. I'm cooking on a butane camping stove, and keeping my food in coolers. The only time I get online is when I can find an open network in one of the few areas that has power.

There is NO WAY that I want the Military coming in here every time there is a Hurricane down here. That would be really bad.

The way the US is set up is that we are supposed to have the freedom to take care of ourselves. Want the goverment to take care of you like a big daddy? Go live in a socialist country with all the regulations and taxes that go along with it.

                I have. No thanks.

While I don't think things have been running smoothly I don't blame the government for everything. Each of these storms has been unique and created unique issues that must be dealt with uniquely. Did I get my point across? Yes, while these were all Hurricanes, each posed it's own set of problems that need to be dealt with. Okay, yes, some issues are clear and universal and those shouldn't be excused as little oversights.

It's the private organizations that are really coming to the aid of your fellow American.

We have a lot of freedoms that are taken for granted here. One of which is a relatively low tax burden on the average American. For this we all forgoe the luxuries of national mass transportation and national mass healthcare.

These things could be afforded to us, if we're willing to accept change.

On a related but different note, my heart goes out to all in SoFl.

The problem I see is the chicken shits in the government (state and federal). In these times of crisis their main concearn still seems to be their precious political careers. No one steps up and takes chances that would save lives and money. They all sit back, play it safe and hope the damage is minimal enough for someone else to come in and fix the problems. The problems that we witnessed during the huricanes will continue less we cease voting for a bunch of pussy ass douches.
